I've been trying to get as much knowledge as I can ( I know there's a lot of false info out there just as much as good info) and I can recall me reading something about not giving Joey's any treats like yogurt drops or mealworms and that treats should only be 5% of their diet as well.

How did you go about giving your Joey's treats? did you give them any? thanks for input.

Hi Drum,

While I don't usually give treats unless I am doing photos, treats should be given in the morning as to not fill them up so they don't eat their dinner at night.

Once joeys are eating with their parents you can try and start them on treats. You may have to squish the meal worms for them at first.

I also see your in Wisconsin, what part of Wisconsin are you in?
I am having a toy making party at the fire house in Oregon, WI this coming Saturday, May 13. Starts at 10am we would love to have you join us if you can.

In the beginning, I admit I gave too many treats. I gave yogies, and pine nuts. Mine didn't care for mealies until they were about 5 months Oop.

Then I had to break them in half and give a little squish. After that they were addicted.

Now I use them for positive re-enforcement. Like jumping on me for a ride to the fridge to get more. And especially when they have had a long day in the bonding pouch/ traveling cage. I try to begin and end our time together on a positive note. (Or mealie as they think of it)

I agree 100% with everything you said, Dawn.

Giving treats in the beginning is just like we did with our children or at least I did with my child. It's called bribing them with what they love to get them to do what we want rofl

With gliders we give them sweet treats early to get them to heart us and make bonding easy or so we think. I'm not sure who is the smarter in this situation dunno We end up creating little sweet monsters with spoiled appetites when it is time for their main meal which is what they really need.

Same as we did with our toddler children and then wondered why they refused to eat their meals tounge

alrighty then! It looks like I'll start giving them mealworms for treats now smile I only have the dried ones, and heard they love the live ones but we'll see.

Some gliders do like the freeze dried ones, so if you have those go ahead and give them a try. If they like them you can use those before trying the live wiggly ones wink
