I can't tell mine apart anymore.
Save for rare exceptions when I catch someone's little identifying mark, or see them acting a unique way, do I ever use their real names.
It doesn't help that they never slow down. In response, "Doodle, Little Doodle, Doodles, Squirrelly-Doodles, Doodle Bug, Doodle Butt etc.", are new generic pet names that have evolved.
No. I'm sorry, Three of Five, I can't tell you apart anymore. But I care. So here's a new nickname....
But Aria loves to bark. She's my barker. It's not problem barking, but it's pretty regular, and she's got a pretty voice, so I don't mind so much.
The gliders were out, leading the dogs in a merry rampage around the RV, so as usual, I am not really asleep. At least I made it into the bed this time.
At some point, Aria detached from the play group, and came down to check on the big mound of blankets they keep running over.
I was expecting some face licks, and maybe a combing of the beard/mustache before she bounced off, but not this time.
This time, she wedges herself under my neck, with her head sticking out, right next to my cheek--and starts to bark.
This was really intense right in my ear. Loud but not painful. But I could feel her little body against my neck, and how she shudders with each bark--and digs in her CLAWS OF FIRE...#$$&% BARK OW BARK OW BARK OW
Claws aside, it was very cool to have her come to me to seek out physical touch. That hasn't happened before.
She kept it up for a good 30 sec, before the dogs came round to get everyone rounded up again.
Arrow's squeaky voice from his perch atop Charlie's head: "C'mon sis, we got Animal Planet on the nest box iPod! It's Meerkat Manor!"
(Chelsea has got everyone into Meerkat Manor over here--it's like a furry Game of Thrones.)

I can't tell mine apart anymore.
I really don't know why that is so funny to me. Reading your story, reminded me of this: My neighbor back home raises Angus cattle. They are all black... While we were home, I saw one limping and told him about it. He replied "Oh yea, was that number 503?" I was like, what?!? He got a disgusted look on his face and said " The ear tag, in the right ear, was is #503 ?!?" I said "Well heck, it was a cow, not a steer, and she was limping. She is in the field behind our house." He told me there were over 50 cows in that field, and if I could be more specific. I told him she had a pretty face... Well that didn't help! I wouldn't suggest ear tags, but thought you might like the story...
Dawn Be patient, and Trust your journey.... Grace Ruby Mom Fiona, Dot, Stewie and Dad Wish I could turn back time... Miss you all...
