You can use either, you will have to put holes in it so the gliders can breathe. Alao, check out the inside of the flexible pipe and make sure the wire is covered/coated. It may rust.
I would go with a 4" flexible tube so if gliders meet in the middle, they can pass by each other.
Be sre to clean it regularly with vinegar water solution.
