Sonia is about 8 years old. She was always healthy. However, recently I noticed a lump on her thigh. I took her to the vet and he thinks that the swelling on her thigh is just lipoma (he did a biopsy and looked under the microscope), however he detected a hard mass in her abdomen. He thinks it's cancer. Does anyone has experience with this? How long do you think he has left. He couldn't answer that. I give them avocado every day. COuld that be the reason for lipoma? Thanks.

Print This list of vets who offer telephone consults with other vets and ask your vet if he/she is willing to talk with a vet who might have experience in this field. He will need to make some calls to find out who it might be.

I agree with Karen. It does sound like the mass on her hip isn't the problem it is the hard mass in her abdomen. I would get her to another vet.

I am not sure if there is any point in doing this. He did ultrasound on her abdomen and biopsy on her hip. He does not recommend a surgery; just suggested to wait and see. When her health deteriorates...to put her down . I read posts related to this topic...these things don't end well for sugar gliders.

Is this something these vets do for free? Or do they charge for the consults?

I think your vet wants to take the wait and see because your little one is already 8 years old, which is considered geriatric to most vets.

How long do sugies live ? I get different numbers from different sources. My vet told me 4-7, but I was reading 10-12.

He suggested to let her be until her quality of life deteriorates... and then euthanize her. She is about 10 years old after all. I am happy she made it through this time. The doctor thought she would be gone by the end of last summer. However I do realize that she has a ticking bomb in her stomach, and that every day could be the last...
