Hi Everyone, I am new here and looking for some help. I stepped on my boy Taz (whom I rescued last year when we think it was ~6 y.o.) a few days ago. He didn't make any crabbing sounds and ran off like nothing happened. Then the last few days he has been really slow, not sleeping with my other sugar bears, not eating really or drinking like before. Normally he crabs like crazy and sometimes bites me when I wake him up - holding him is a no-no but he does climb on me and go crazy for mealworms. But yesterday and today he isn't making any noise, no bites, letting me hold and pet him not grabbing meat I put in his face and though still eating a few meal worms, not going after them aggressively like he normally does. I noticed the cloaca area looked a bit swollen and when I pushed/squeezed around there a really foul smelling whitish discharge came out. I spent hours trying to find a vet that treats gliders and I have an appt. tomorrow - but not until almost 20 hours from now. What do you think is wrong? What can I do to keep him comfortable until the vet? Any home remedies? Please help!

I would call the vet back and explain to them about the discharge. This little one may be in real trouble. Tell them everything that happened, especially that you accidentally stepped on him.
I am sorry there isn't more we can do as this could be a very serious problem.

I agree, you need to get him to a vet ASAP! Please keep us posted on his prognosis.

Thank you for the replies!! I just signed up on here. So great news! I didn't have to euthanize him and I really thought this was the end for him. Turns out he has a chance! <3 He was not injured by my stepping on him (phhhew - as I would never forgive myself). The vet thinks he has a UTI and respiratory infection. He is older (~7) and was neglected before I rescued him 1 year ago. I'm so happy I found this forum! How do you get those little sugar glider images in your signature lines?
