Hi guys I have a sugar glider named Ezra he is just 12 weeks old I have had him for 3 days and today is day 4. The first 2 days I did not remove him from his cage at all or anything of that nature however it was the weekend so I did sit by the cage extensively and do daily activities such as watch TV and play games. Yesterday on Day 3 I took him into the closet and put food on the carpet for him and then sat back in a corner and opened the cage. It took him about 10 minutes to come out and then I just sat still as he ate. Then he began to get closer because I led the food closer and closer to me. Finally he was very close to me licking the yogurt up. Once he was finished he was looking at me for a long time and then he crouched down as if he was going to jump on me but never actually did. Then he went under my legs because they were crossed and nibbled on my pants and then he crawled down to my feet and then was out from under my legs and started to go play with my shoes on the other side of the closet. At this point I moved myself over some to the opposite corner that he was in and he began to shake behind a shoe very badly. I then said, " It's okay Ezra, its okay" and he stopped shaking and was back to exploring away. Then he kept playing with the shoes until I finally turned the cage back around and he went in it and I closed it. All of this was done with not one instance of crabbing or biting. Then this morning I was talking to him through the cage before going to work and he kept climbing up the cage right next to me and then i put my hand near it and he grabbed it with his hand and was semi biting my fingers but not very hard at all and I didn't jerk my hand away like I thought I would I just let him do it because I read that’s what you're supposed to do. I am very curious as to what my next steps should be today. I don't want to rush but I don't want to lose any progress either if that makes sense.

That is a really good start!

Have you cut up any fleece into 4 or 5 inch squares to make blankies? You can sleep with them under your pillow or rub them on you to get your scent on them. Then every few days replace them every few days. It will give her something to cuddle with too.

I would keep on this routine for about a week. Let her decide how much further to go.

Keep us posted please, and don't be surprised if you have slight set backs. It's normal.

You are doing good, do things at his pace. I would say you had a positive first day bonding with him.

clap Very good. Keep on doing exactly what you are doing. Take you cues from him. Pretty soon you two will be best buddies.
