Hey I have a question about the diet I feed my gliders. Every night I give them a portion of the BML diet, and a diced up slice of fruit. (Apple, orange, blackberry, strawberry, grapes, etc) Sometimes there is more fruit than there is of the BML.

For the entire year I've had them (Got them In January and February) their poop, has been dry enough that I can just sweep it up off the floor easily, it didn't stick to anything or make a mess. But the past two days I've found that their poop is a sticky, a mushy consistency, that is awful to clean up! So I'm wondering if maybe Im giving them too much fiber? But its weird because this is the first time its happened!

Any input would be great.

*** There is a very strict list of vegetables and fruits to be fed with the BML diet plan. ***

Vegetables: corn, peas, carrots, green beans.

Fruits: apples, grapes, watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, frozen pitted cherries, blueberries.

Do NOT feed the seeds of apples or the pits of cherries. You can use fresh or frozen, but do NOT used canned.

Do NOT use fruit slurries or vegetable relishes.

As you probably know, the BML feeding plan has the most restricted list of fruits/veggies which can be fed.

You do not have to feed them all at a single meal but can rotate a couple of each a night so they have more variety of you wish. It is probably better not to overload them with fruits/veggies so they will eat more of the BML staple.

Hope this helps.

Karen's right about the diet.

As far as "runny poop", you're right, it is had to clean.

Gliders can be easily stressed. This may cause loose poo. Has there been any changes in their environment? Like maybe temperature, humidity, water, cleaning products, new smells, new pets, or strangers?

As far as fiber, they only take in soluble fiber and spit out the insoluble(like hulls of fruits and veggies, carrots that look untouched, but bitten in to). If they eat the soluble fiber, it really does a number on their digestive system.

Have you changed their fruits or veggies? Is it a new batch when they started this? Be sure to watch them over the next few days, see if you can determine who is having issues. A visit to the vet may be a good idea if it doesn't clear up soon. Runny poo can be a sign of sickness and cause dehydration.
