I had a pair of sugar gliders over 15 years ago. They were an older pair who had two previous litters of joeys and weren't handled by their previous owner so it wasn't an ideal situation. Things have really changed in 15 years. There is so much more information and all the food options. I don't think there were any dry foods specifically for gliders and I only knew of BML as a mixed diet. Plus all the supplies specifically for gliders. Etsy was barely a thing 15 years ago, let alone all the people who sew just for sugar gliders. Where does one start? After raising my 3 children and looking at an empty nest, I decided now was a good time for a sugar glider.I picked up my little girl joey yesterday. I haven't decided on a name yet, but seeing all the names on the forums has been inspirational. I know gliders live in colonies and do best with a minimum of two, but I am hoping to bond with my little girl before I introduce a second glider. Is that a good idea? What time frame should I give for bonding with this glider before looking for a second one? Looking forward to learning from all of you once again.

I can imagine things around here have changed quite a bit since you were here last. It's like we did a whole house renovation plus there is a new owner Basically things are the same just many more bells and whistles. We have gone through quite a bit while you are gone, and there is lots to read I had a pair of sugar gliders over 15 years ago. They were an older pair who had two previous litters of joeys and weren't handled by their previous owner so it wasn't an ideal situation. Things have really changed in 15 years. I haven't decided on a name yet, but seeing all the names on the forums has been inspirational. Some people pick a name right away and others wait a little while to see what their personality is to see if a name jumps out that more fits them. It's really up to you. I know gliders live in colonies and do best with a minimum of two, but I am hoping to bond with my little girl before I introduce a second glider. Is that a good idea? What time frame should I give for bonding with this glider before looking for a second one? This is another choice that is up to the owner to do what is best for them and the glider. How old is the glider you have now? Joey or adult? Looking forward to learning from all of you once again.

Some people pick a name right away and others wait a little while to see what their personality is to see if a name jumps out that more fits them. It's really up to you. I have been calling her Crabby Patty, but not sure I want to stick with that as one of my good friend's name is Patty. She is just 8 weeks OOP. We are doing pretty good, I just have to stop flinching when she lunges at me. She loves the mealworms I raise for my son's bearded dragon. This afternoon it will be 48 hours so I will bring her out in her pouch for a little while and sit with her before her dinner time. Without having small children to care for I have so much more time to be slow and patent.
Looking forward to learning from all of you once again.

Welcome Back! I am new here myself and my situation is much like yours! I inherited my first rescue suggie about a year ago. It's been a learning curve but I would like to think I have a consistent program with him. It took us about a year to bond but I rescued him as basically an unhandled 3 year old so your timeline may be shorter. I am currently meeting other gliders to see if one may be a good fit for him. Good luck on your journey!
