I must say I have never heard of this being done for a sugar glider. What type of surgery is being done that blood would be needed?
Getting blood from a glider just for a blood test is difficult and sometimes risky, so I cannot imagine a surgery where there would be a need for additional blood.
Putting them under for that long would also be extremely dangerous as some do not do well for extended times under anesthesia.
Thanks for your comment. That's what I would like to know more. Even anyone has gone through such a situation I mentioned.
The sugar glider had gone through the tumor operation in the morning. Then around 8 p.m. the owner brought that suggie to another exotic hospital to be admitted. Then around 8.37 p.m., the vet posted for any urgent blood donor (sugar gliders) by giving only information about the weight around 130-160 grams. In that post. Unfortunately, at 9.57 p.m. the vet posted that the sugar glider passed away.
Any risk for the blood donor - giver? Possibility? I can tell that most of the owners would like to take their sugar gliders as blood donor, but I got confused WHY the vet posted the info only the weights (without some other info telling the risk for the owners).
Just speaking as an ordinary person with no medical knowledge (thinking logically) I would not want any of my gliders to be a blood donor simply because of the risk (1) they are small, (2) can't afford to loose much of their own blood supply and (3) would want to put them at risk of going under anesthesia for that reason.
Let me see if I can find someone to give their opinion who is very experiences with sugar gliders.

Years ago I had a great dane. I was asked by a vet if I would be interested in donating some of his blood for a dog in need.
I didn't even know you could do that at the time. Bandit (my dog) had been in recently for shots and a checkup, and the vet fell in love with my gentle giant. We did take him in to donate and he was fine afterwards. The dog in need survived her surgery.
Having said that, I think the vet was looking for a larger glider who may be able to afford donating a few drops of blood... I wouldn't risk at all... I'm curious if there has been research on crossing species to get a donor from a bit larger animal.
I hope someone may come forward who has experienced this ..
As someone who just had blood draws on 24 gliders the can only take .01 to .02 out of a glider. For them to donate blood you would have to have 24 or more gliders.

Thanks. That's too many.
I don't know whether what I found is right or not ... That means only one millilitre (as the picture)? I got the information from this link . Is this only for blood test (not for blood donation)?
That would be .01ml which is not even a drop of blood.
The picture to me is too much.
Edit... Wait, i just looked at my medicine syringe. Maybe they meant .1ml . It looks like a lot more than that in the the teaspoon.
Maybe Feather can verify that.

That would be challenging. I mean for blood donation among Sugar Gliders. I feel like impossible due to the less amount of blood and the possible risks for other blood donors (sugar gliders).
Here are the info I found from this site. I think it talks about only blood collection.
I do know when we had a cancerous lump removed from my gliders neck there was very little blood.
