I have a bonded sugar glider pair (a mother and her son) who are about 8 and 4 years old. I adopted them around a year ago, and everything has been going smoothly until recently. About two weeks ago, I noticed the fur at the tip of the mother’s tail starting to look thinner.
Right before this, I had moved into a new place, and shortly after, I went on a week-long vacation. During that time, my parents cared for the gliders at their house. So within a short span, their environment changed twice: first, the move to my new apartment, and then temporarily to my parents' home while I was away. I made sure to bring their entire cage setup and toys both times to minimize stress.
When I checked her tail again last night, it looked noticeably worse. There’s now about half an inch of fur that’s extremely thin—not bald, but definitely super sparse. The skin underneath looks normal: it’s pink, not red or irritated. Still, I’m really worried and trying to figure out what’s causing her stress or discomfort.

To address possible boredom, I added a few new toys to their cage yesterday and ordered a Freedom Runner wheel that should arrive soon. Another potential issue I just discovered is that one of the air vents in the apartment points somewhat toward their cage-it might have been a bit drafty, though we keep the temperature around 76°F.
One more thing: in my previous apartment, there was a mild fruit fly problem that started shortly before I moved. I did occasionally see fruit flies near their cage, so I began limiting their food access to 2 hours at a time to help manage it. I'm not sure if fruit flies pose any risk to sugar gliders, but it’s been on my mind.
I did contact our vet, and she advised keeping an eye on things for now and calling back if it gets worse. Still, I feel like something needs to change soon to prevent it from escalating. I’m just really concerned and want to make sure she’s happy and healthy again. I attached pics if anyone wants to take a look (she never stays still so they're a little blurry) but please let me know if anyone has advice or recommendations what I can do- if anyone has more questions feel free to ask!!!

She has had a lot of stressors she needs time to decompress from the move and staying with your parents.

I would cover the cage on three sides and the top to protect them from the draft. That will also help keep your walls clean.
For fruit flies, get some cheap salt and pepper shakers, fill halfway with Organic Apple Cider Vineger and add a couple drops of Dawn dish soap. You can zip tie the shaker to the cage down near the drop pan.

A vet visit wouldn't hurt checking for parasites or a UTI, If they check out ok, Just be patient and let them decompress.

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond to my message Kimberley, I'm a first time glider owner that truly cherishes her babies and I really appreciate the advice- I do have a big fleece blanket over most of the cage but ill have to clip it in place to make sure its fully covering three of the sides (I did close the vent that was causing the draft in the first place though, so hopefully it won't really be an issue anymore). As for the fruit flies thankfully my new place has been fly free (my old unit was right next to the trash room that was constantly backed up from other residents not following proper disposal guidelines). The only thing I am worried about with taking her to the vet is adding even more on to the stress and moving her around again so I'm inclined to just keep a really close eye on her for the coming week and take her in if I see anything beginning to escalate further (but let me know if you have opinions on this)
