The title says it all really. I've heard that avocado is toxic, is good for putting on weight, that only the skin is toxic, and a lot of other things.. Seeking the truth, so, help me out a little?

Avocado is GREAT as a treat and weight gain helper and most suggies devour it and will tell you how good it is as they are eating in the form of chirps and squeaks and also finger licking once it is all gone.. It's sooo cute. However, being that it is so high in fat my sugs only get it in small amounts 2 times per month. They love Avocado night. Also, it is true the skin is toxic, but with a ripe avocado the skin should just peel right of without any effort and can go right in the trash. Buy your avocados when they are not super mooshy but are soft when you squeeze... Once sliced, cover the exposed parts without skin, and Keep in the refrigerator Also do NOT feed any part of the huge pit, it is also toxicHTH, Amanda Edit: Woo, spelling was a little rough there..LOL

Amanda covered everything . My guys love it almost as much as they do mealies, but now that they are starting to look chubby they will only get it once a month ..that breaks my heart. But yes, do stear clear of the skin and pip in the center.

My Phia used to get it at least 2 or 3 times a week, along with lots of mealies. Phia is my first glider and I really didn't know any better back then (almost 5 years now)... well needless to say she got to be a pretty LARGE girl After 4 years of limiting her mealies and avacados she is now back to a decent weight... So yes they are great to have just not to often like both Lorna and Amanda have said.

Everyone pretty much covered it. My guys get plenty this time of year as we have a couple of trees. Hubby and gliders both have great hair and skin but we do have to watch my miss piggy Sasha as she is getting a bit "fluffy".

While avocados are high in fat, they are also high in beneficial anti oxidents. The down side is the weight gain in gliders that tend to be on the heavy side to start with. Great food for an underweight glider or one that is sick and struggling to maintain their weight.
