Written by: Unknown<P>I wrote a few days ago because my female sugar glider had been vomiting. Her name is Luna (I believe there is another Luna on this list). I took her to the
vet, who diagnosed her with either a foreign body or a tumor blocking her GI tract. As she would have died otherwise, we proceeded with surgery. It turned out that Luna has a strange abnormality. Sugargliders have an organ called the cecum (see-cum) where the small intestine joins the large. It's kind of like our appendix. It's usually a very tiny pouch. In a dogor cat, it's only about an inch long. In my glider, it was THREE inches long! It's a dead-end organ, and hers had become packed with hard feces. This was causing the vomiting and inability to process food. The vetre moved all but a tiny portion of the cecum. Luna came through the surgery OK, but the
vet noted that Luna's liver had fatty liver syndrome. We're hoping that this is a byproduct of the plugged cecum and that it will reverse. Luna is brigh!
