awhile back i posted about a conversation i had with an animal control officer for Dallas who informed me that suggies are illegal in Dallas, then someone replied that they spoke to someone at city hall & that they were considered "Pocket Pets" & not affected by the exotic ban in Dallas; NOT TRUE!!! i met a SUPERVISOR for animal control in Dallas at Wal-Mart & she reconfirmed my original fear: sugar gliders are NOT exempted from the exotic animal ban in the city of Dallas, Texas! if found, suggies are CONFISCATED AND DESTROYED!!!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tantrum.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tantrum.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tantrum.gif" alt="" />

Before I relocated to Texas from Michigan, I contacted the Texas County clerk & asked her - "Is there any ordinance that prohibits the private possession of exotic animals"
(I did not mention what species of animals - who knows what species I may adopt next)

I was sent this counties regulation on exotic animals & informed that many Texas Cities were looking at changing their Exotic animal laws!
I have also been hearing concern from other marsupial owners nationwide as well - those who have Macropods, as several states are talking of banning them also.

This could be a good reason not to hold a USDA license!
(A few years ago, several people lost their very healthy & beloved brushtail possums)

I've always been told they are illegal in the city limits of Dallas.. I hope you guys get this cleared up tho.. good luck.

It is always best to look at the actual written law itself. Particularly when you get verbal conflicting information from government officials.

Well, me and my suggar-nuts are going to head for dallas in a week or so, we will have to see what is happening up there!
