Two WFB produce a normal baby? #246334

I recently bought my beautiful baby boy, Steve, from Cageworks.com. Both of his parents were said to be WFB, but he is a normal but very very light like buttercream color. So if both of his parents are WFB, does that make him some sort of het? He is paired with a normal female now.

If I remember correctly that is NOT a company with a good reputation. Even if your suggies are colored they may not have very strong lineage, they might have just had some color to them so they sold them as whatever they looked most like. If you can post a pic you can get some excellent opinions...

Actually upon looking at the site I'm not sure if it's the one I was thinking of - however a pic WOULD help determine the breed and possibilities

Some do not believe that there is such a thing as a WFB het.

I believed there was some talk that two 'hets' had produced a WFB - but they were both higher generation WF's and I believe this was only one instance.

I do not think they are a very reputable breeder. The claim that they almost always have babies 'in stock' is a very big red flag...

As for color, pics would help...

I'll work on pics. I don't know how to turn off the flash and it's too bright for my babies:-) I doubt in the future I would buy from them again. My Lil Steve was too young and I had a very hard time getting him to eat for the first three days. But he has made friends with my older baby Sydney and he eats with her often grabbing food from her hands.

Ok I have the pics but they are too big. How do I resize them so it will allow me to put them on here?

Hi there,
Did you buy from Custom Cageworks from the VA show this past weekend? If so, that is who they are saying is not a very reputable breeder...You might want to re-think letting them breed. He does have a bad repution of letting his gliders inbreed and being taken away from their parents far too young...and you would not want any futher health issues. Apparently, there has only been one case of two classic gray gliders having a white face and I think that was only due to having a long white face line. So, your chances of getting a white face from them , I am sorry to say is very slim to none....But please do consider getting your boy neutered.

But two WFB can have a normal baby right? Apparently Steve came from too WFB and he's a normal just light colored.

Also just wanted to add...I see your picture HE sure is cute....I saw his gliders at the show...and most of them were scent stained badly...That's what that yellowy color is...Also little guys like him...he's probably only 4 weeks OOP are a little lighter.

Hope all this helps

Okay, am I dumb, b/c I didn't really see a bar behind steve's ears. . . That's a blonde, or white face, not sure which one, but it is right. . I don't know, I only ask out of curiousity.

Steve has the bar behind his ears. It's the black you see on the side of his face in the picture.

Two wf gliders can produce joeys that are not wf and have the bar under their ears. It is also possible to have a blonde that is not a wf. Judging by the picture, you have a beautiful blonde joey. There is pretty much no chance that he will produce wf offspring.

It is hard to tell from your picture, as his whole tail is not shown, but it does not appear to have fluffed out yet. That would be a sign that he is under 8 weeks oop. Steve is known for selling his joeys at about 6 weeks oop. How is he eating? You may want to supplement him with baby BML for at least 2 weeks.

I agree, that looks like such a tiny little baby still. He is going to need some special care for the next few weeks. He should not yet be away from his parents but what is done is done...

Yeah in hind sight I realize now he is young, but when I saw him it was love at first sight an dhe had to be my new baby. He was already away from his parents. He is doing good with my older joey. He eats BML and drinks plenty of water. I'm taking him to the vet either today or tomorrow when they can fit me in. Thanks for all the replies!:-)

Here is a picture of one of my joeys (still with parents) at 4 weeks oop. He looks to be about the same age.

I'm glad he is not alone and has a buddy to learn from!

I'm pretty sure my baby is older than 4 weeks. The picture is deceiving. He is actually bigger than what it looks. Never the less, he is going to the vet today at 2pm to make sure he's ok track with growth and eating, for his well baby check up.

Lil Steve did well at the vet. I got him some preventative medicine for diahrrea because I'm trying to switch him to BML at the moment. But everything is great. Thanks for all of your concern and replies:-)

I hate to say it but I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy from Cageworks. I have a female that was originally one of theirs. I bought her from a woman who paid $800 for a "Third generation White faced blonde". When I contacted Cageworks to ask about the glider's pedigree, they told me they didn't keep any records on their gliders and all they could tell me was when she was sold and how much she was sold for.

There's a BIG problem with that logic for me. They claim she was a third generation WFB and can't produce even information on her parents? Much less the three generations that they are claiming? That completely destroyed my faith in them as a breeder or even a responsible seller.

Okay, I apologize, I read "Cageworks.com" and immediately responded with the above comment before reading through the rest of the page. That wasn't very nice of me. shakehead

I LOVE the picture of your baby! He has the most adorable face, I can totally understand why you fell in love with him. smile

I'm pretty much a newbie around here, so I'm not the best one to debate colors, but I'd worry about what he might be passing on considering the kennel he comes from. I'd try to find him a good male buddy to hang out with until he grows up a bit and you can see his personality/health or other issues. I don't know, maybe I'm just a worry wort, but it's kind of scary getting a baby from a non-reputable source. I don't know if I'd jump into the idea of breeding him without really thinking it out first.

I'm sure you're going to be an amazing glider parent though! hug2

He is too young yet for me to think about breeding. He is with a female joey now that is about two weeks older then him and they are the best of friends. His personality is great and Steve and his cagemate are very bonded. Only time will tell with him. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't buy again from Custom Cageworks, but I must say, that when little Steve seemed a little dehydrated and I called the owner of the company, he was very supportive and helpful over the phone.

BTW, someone earlier in the thread commented that the tan color may come from urine staining. I've had him for a month now and he's even lighter and very clean:-) I'll post new pics soon.
