Thought this would be a great discussion.

Neutersol- a non surgical method of sterilization.

here's is more information on Neutersol-
http://www.acc-d.org/Neutersol
but if you google Neutersol- there's lots of articles available.

I think your referring to zinc playted cages like galvanized wire.

Inf on zinc- http://www.webelements.com/webelements/elements/text/Zn/key.html

The neutersol actually uses zinc gluconate neutralized by arginine- Zinc gluconate is a popular form of delivery of zinc as a dietary supplement.

I've done some reading up to find out about pain or side effects- I've found that possible side effects include vomiting, anorexia, lethargy, diarrhea, scrotal pain and scrotal inflammation. So just as with anesthesia & a surgical procedure, there are going to be possible side effects.

It may not be a 100% cure- but it can be a possibility to skip one stage of the risk factors. Getting the dosage down to a gliders weight may be one of the biggest obstacles- but just as I'm sure getting anesthesia was when first used on gliders.

look at the package insert one that website.Page 3 inder adverse reactions, it wouldn't let me copy and paste from it. I'm not so sure that it would be a good idea for gliders from an SM stand point.

"...does not abolish testosterone production..."
Wouldn't this mean they will not have behavior changes and will still have full scent glands as well?
It also stated that several dogs Sm'd....

Be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

yes they will still have male behaviors - the testosterone is not completely eliminated- how much would cause for the bald spot to stay-is un known.

But even with neuters now- not all male behavior is changed-some males will still want to mate- some males don't fully lose their bald spot and marking still takes place.

There were 2 dogs with severe reaction
1 for an ulcerated scrotum
the 2nd with a perforated scotum and severe infection- the dog had licked and chewed through the scrotum.
Only the 2nd dog not several would be classified as an sm or he could have been over cleaning?

There's a table of the 270 dogs & the # with certain reactions & the % they played in the 270 on page 4 of the packet insert

It is very interesting, and if they can tweek it to work a little better with less side affects, I think it would be a great alternative then surgery to dogs/cats. I really think this would benefit in the over population of pets and in the human societies. It would be nice to cut down on all the senseless animal deaths because of spay/neutering not being done. I think more people would be apt to doing this first, also depending on cost.

As for the gliders, I think it would be a LONG time before this could be a possibilty, and honestly I think I would still go with the lazer neutering for my boys. IMO.

The cost was to be no more than the cost of other neutering options by the vet.

I know it's probably a long time before this could be put into practice with our gliders- how long was it before gliders started getting neutered from when introduced to the US? There are still many many dr's who just won't do them now.

you would have to have a bunch of owners with un-neutered gliders volunteer to have it done, even if it works for cats and dogs, it is a whole new experiment with the gliders.
