At Petsmart they just released (from what I have noticed) a new food for gliders called sunscription vita by sunseed. Has anyone heard of this diet? There is nothing on the internet about it quite yet. I'm currently using BML but I would like to try something different. Would I still have to use the rep-cal (blue and pink bottles) with the food? Side note: Fruit is getting a little too expensive, anyone have a method for preserving them a little longer than 2 days?

I've never heard of that food..I'll go look into it.
With the fruit, I cut mine up and store it in the freezer. My gliders actually prefer their food frozen...

From what I understand the pellet food isn't the best way to go. I'm not sure why, but hopefully someone else will be able to fill you in more.

I guess you could compare it to the Quiko Sugar Glider food. I agree with everyone else tho, I prefer to use a fresh diet. Quiko info for comparison: Just click the options buttons for ► Ingredients ► Directions ► Guaranteed Analysis ► Product Reviews On the Quiko Sugar Glider Food product page.

Is Quiko the same as the Sunseed stuff? I can't find a difference in the info other than the name.... I know there was one brand of "sugar glider food" that was basically the same as the brand's reptile and bird foods, just with a different name and picture on the packaging..

From what I've understood from people telling me about the pellet food, the reason that it isn't good for the gliders is that most of them have NOTHING in it! There's not much for nutritional value, and not really ANY vitamins or minerals that are essential in a glider diet! I have looked at a lot of these foods that I come across here and there and I have yet to find one that offers them as much as the BML, PML, or otherwise! There just doesn't seem to be an "EASIER" feeding of all of that nutrition in one easy to feed food! SORRY!

With note to that, both say that fresh fruits, veggies, and mealworms (or other insects) should be fed in conjunction with the pelleted food. However, I still do not recommend these diets.

The problem with store bought foods is you don't know how long they have been on the shelf, and they probably were not stored "ideally" and pose a chance for mold and toxins... I REALLY do not recommend you use this stuff.

oh, and wax worms are EXTREMELY high in fat, and crickets can carry aflatoxin... so i don't suggest those either.

As an animal owner I am always wary of the addition of Sodium selenite.. it's in a lot of animal feed, if they get it in the wrong amounts its poisonous for smaller animals. I would really go with the diets listed here on this site and avoid pellets altogether. I keep a 1lb bag of Brisky's pellets in the freezer for emergency purposes only (freezer goes boom, tornado evactuation etc) If I can't pronounce it or I have no clue what an ingredient is, I don't feed it to my baby. But that's just me.

I'm calling my vet tomorrow to ask if they have heard of anything about the food. I still have a decent amount of BML left so until then, I'll stick with BML. Oh and I just ran out and bought a lot of nice veggies and fruits, cut them up and now they are in the freezer. I think last time I did that, somehow all of the fruits were put back in the fridge and it didn't end up looking so good.

I personally would not use this diet. I own a pet store and I will not under any circumstances carry this in my store. You see, these are MASS producers and although they make some really good treats for animals I would never recommend a diet that is created by people who have not even studied a glider.

Regardless of what your vet says - pellets are not a complete diet by any means. You would still have to provide a protein source, fruits and veggies.

One of my gliders was on this before I got her. She was fed ONLY this even though the small print says to add fresh fruit and mealworms. If you want to feed that, then I highly recommend the SunCoast diet.
