Hello everyone, I am going to be the mommy to two very sweet joeys (10 wks OOP and 14 wks OOP) at the end of the month. The gliders are all currently fed the Darcy's diet. I know we don't really say what we SHOULD feed our gliders, one diet over another, but I am just wondering if anyone has any comments/suggestions about this diet. I have prepared it previously in the form of a smoothie (like a chunky smoothie)! And everyone seemed to enjoy it. I would rotate more veggies in the mix one night to more fruits the next, etc. Basically, if it is working so far, there should be no reason for me to change them to say, BML or something right? xo

If it works for you I see no reason to change. Just be aware that it can *possibly* cause constipation in some gliders. I'd just keep an eye on them. I was feeding Darcy's but switched to BML and my babies seem happier.

The thing with "the Darcy's diet" is that what you have researched and are planning on feeding is most likely NOT Darcy's diet but "the ensure diet". See, Darcy's diet is much more involved than what is posted. Same with the "PML" diet. Only PART of the whole diet is posted online. Many of the other things fed with these diets are not easily obtainable (such as plants grown from australian seed, or pretty graphic in nature such as feeding baby finches) My own personal experience with the Ensure diet was not good at all. Darcy's diet is intended for SICK gliders. MY opinion is this is not appropriate for HEALTHY gliders.

You see, without your response, I would probably not have probed it too much, and would not have realized that it was intended for ailing gliders. The only other diet I seem to be able to find a lot of information on is the BML diet. It MUST be popular for a reason, although I have read that a lot of the more experienced members here, do not use it (Not sure WHAT they use..). I want to make sure that the diet I switch them to permanently is well balanced, not too complicated to put together (I don't mind preparing things nightly if necessary) and stimulating for them to eat. I have a month to do a lot more reading and research on this... Thank you both for taking the time to offer me some insight.

So if the "Darcy's diet" information in the GC diet link is incorrect, where is the real diet at?

You would have to contact Darcy's owner. I can't remember her screenname...Saharanfox or something like that I think.

I have looked through those links, yes. Thank you for directing me there. I guess it just seems so...confusing at times. I am going to continue reading past posts and seeing if I can settle on one I think would be the best...at least to start with. Thank you again though.

http://www.sugarglider.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showprofile&User=163That is Donna's profile. She is the creator of Darcy's diet. I would e-mail her for the exact diet. Again, this diet isn't something I would recommend feeding healthy gliders. It was created for an ill glider who needed to gain and maintain weight. What parts are confusing to you? I know there are a lot of different diets. The "top" diets in my opinion are: Priscilla's (The Sugar Glider Exotic diet) HPW BML PML

The confusing part is just...I guess just wanting to make sure I have them on the BEST! I am a little neurotic..but your opinions...help. A LOT.
I am going to begin my research with those in mind...
Thanks again princessmegi!

I'v feed Darcy's diet for 2 years now with no problems, my gliders are picky eaters and i find darcys works great. Its all about finding what works best for your gliders, as every glider is different. In fact, i tried to switch to BML a few months ago after one of my gliders recovered from an illness and none of mine would touch it, not even modifications of it. I'd say if it works then stick with it, i wouldent fix something if its not broken. I can give you the correct diet, just PM me
