I have tried, for some time, unsuccessfully to get my lone female glider to get along with the pair we already had. We first put their cages next to each other but nothing really happened and the one time we did put them in a neutral room together, our older female attacked and we had to seperate them. The older female constantly runs around on the outside of the younger one's cage and scents whenever we let her out. This has been going on for more than 6 months now. Recently the older female has started acting aggressively towards me too, locking on to my arm and then repetedly biting me, mostly when I'm trying to get her off the baby's cage. Needless to say this hurts. I have 2 questions... First, I assume that the two girls will never get along, is this true? Second, any thoughts on how to stop her from biting me? She used to be soooooo nice and gentile.

Hello and welcome to GC.
It sounds to me like your older female is an Alpha female and she may not ever want another female around her. I don't know how to go about changing that as I haven't experienced that problem first hand. Hopefully someone will post that does have the experience to help. Good luck.

Thanks for your thoughts... I think that makes a lot of sense. The particularly vicious pitbull type bite I got from her last night was just after I had let the younger one out for a while and she one had run up my arm (no doubt scenting along the way). I probably smelt alot like the other glider, which is why I got bitten.

As an Alpha, she probably feels threatened by the younger glider (the intruder), of her territory. I would seperate their cages away from each other, to help with any stress issues that may arise. As far as the biting, I have a glider like that....I just make sure he gets played with first, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />. He has absolutely NO tolerance of another glider's scent. Good luck!
