I think we all should write him a "nice" little letter. He doesnt even know what he's talking about. what real danger do they posses other than flinging food and face hugs. That ban would really hurt alot of people. Thanks for bringing that up Critterhill.

I'm glad I waited to get mine until after I moved out of St.Paul. Ugh. Hopefully this idea begins and ends there as far as Minnesota is concerned.

I know personally some of the Animal Control supervisors for Minneapolis and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't pull [censored] like that. As for other cities, I don't know.

Gizmo has bit me a few times, drawn blood a few times, but you don't see me banning him. The guy has no guts to stand up to the small percentage of people yelling about gliders. I for one know many more dogs that should be banned than gliders. Not exactly like gliders are a public annoyance, lol.

Luckily I am an hour and a half from St. Paul but this is a CROCK! "what dangers they may pose?" I will be getting the information to send a letter to him today and get it out this week.

So Any advice on writing a "professional" sounding letter would be appreciated!

He said this was started because of people complaining about vendors selling them at festivals. Instead of banning the animal entirely, why not ban the certain people (not mentioning names like (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets or anything) and let only local people sell them?

Yeah...you would think...I know like 1 pet Shop in St Paul actually that sells them...otherwise I feel they are kinda hard to come by here in MN...unless you are on here or know people.

Let the vendors come...while we hold the fort down and let everyone know that they are horrible...we will make life fun for them.

Everyone that can, needs to go around St.Paul and get a list of names on a petition. They all the glider owners that are there need to show up and speak on behave of the gliders at this city hall meeting. If there is nobody there to dispute him and his vote, than more than likely it will be past.

If you can get even a handful of people together, take some FACTUAL paperwork and if you can find a GOOD EXOTIC vet that will go and speak on the behalf of the glider, that would be awesome as well.

I can tell you though, if nobody shows up with good evidence that a glider is no danger to society or the enviroment, they will be banned in St.Paul.

That is just how the city councils work.

I am hoping to print up some cards and get them out...hopefully some others in my area can help...print out some info with maybe little take home cards with the URL on it...I am not in St Paul...but this will hurt the animals, owners and busiesses as well...so hopefully we can help everyone out and get this garbage stopped.

If this passes in St Paul, then it will eventually spread to Minneapolis and even the entire state. Then who knows where next...

I completely agree that sugar gliders should not be sold at conventions, fairs or whatever. Impulse buyers do not always make good owners to a pet that lives for 15+ years.

This does not mean an entire city should ban them. Where is the logic in that???

Maybe he is mixing up gliders with the native flying squirrel when he talks of them affecting the environment? Otherwise I am confused, especially since he even stated not a single glider has been caught outside.

I'm willing to help in whatever way I can and will look into ways to put a stop to this!

It sounds to me that he just doesn't want to deal with people complaining about suggies being sold at places like flea markets and so he just decided that nobody should have them.

This is what happens when people try to stop the wrong type of breeding and selling, they just get taken away from everyone.

So, in other words, stop complaining about them being mistreated or sold by people that are mill breeders or you won't be able to have yours even though you are trying to make the entire glider community better by looking out for the best interests' of the suggies.

That's just a bunch of [censored]. He don't want to deal with making people take responsibility for doing wrong, so nobody can have them anymore.

It seems like this guy might have his heart in the right place, trying to keep ignorant owners and irresponsible breeders from buying/selling them at conventions. But banning them in the whole city doesn't seem like a very viable answer. I hope the petition gets going and people who own there now can at least get grandfathered in or something.

I was just about to post something about this today, but noticed the PM from Gwen which brought me to this thread. Apparently I am too slow. My mom actually emailed me the article on Saturday, but she sent it to my work email, so I only JUST found out about this! Ugh! I will be signing the petition and forwarding the info to others!
