I need pictures from EVERYONE who has had a Self Mutilator. Three kinds.
1. In the Collar 2. Damage they have done to themselves-don't edit or make it look "better" - blood shows the ugly reality of a Self Mutilator. 3. Post SM and out of the collar, or a postmortem if it applies.
I thought about this last night, and if a glider came to you having previously SMed or suffered loss of limb/tail, you can add yours also.
Include the glider's name on every pic.
The goal is at least 300 to chose from/sort thru - for a very special project that should be ready by JULY.

Good luck Jen! … I think this is a great educational effort … I do not have any SM pics to add … sorry I can’t help .. but glad I have not had to deal with SM …
Unfortunately when I had an active SMer I didn't have a good camera and wasn't one of those to take photos of everything.. but I e-mailed you a photo that I have.

Jen You can use any of Teddy you need. I don't have any with damage because he was caught before any happened. (people take note listen to the tape of the SM sound and have ecollars on hand) I got Bourbon and the ecollar right away. Yay for Teddy.
I have pictures of Levent in his ecollar. He didn't SM, just kept removing what was closing the surgery area... didn't get any pictures of that. If you want him in his e-collar, I have plenty to choose from. Just PM me.

Here's Levent in his e-collar trying to get dinner. The vet made his ecollar... they said they tried a kitten ecollar but it was too big for him. Poor little guy. I can only imagine what he thought was going on!
Not for this one. Maybe we can do something similar for those and rescues in general later on-I'd like to. I've had some come to me in pretty terrible shape, including a little girl that by the time I got her she had only a few days-she looked a lot like Reep did, and very thin-I just didn't have enough time to work with her-her cagemate is still doing wonderfully though. For this one just the SMs and loss of limb/hand/foot/tail... Although, mating wounds and similar would qualify, since it's one glider mutilating another one, technically and if in the wrong place could also require a collar and has in some cases, even low enough on the neck they can reach it.
If you (meaning anyone) know someone who maybe has pics, though, let them know about this. I remember the pictures over the last several years, but not all of the posters. And with my schedules the time I have for searches is limited, though I do intend to try to find some of them. Most of my computer time is at work...I can see attachments but not photobucket or other web based pics.

You can use any of these pictures of Lan. Unfortunately, when he was SMing after his neuter - I was too stressed out to get any pictures of his actual wound - and even as it was healing, I just never thought about it until it was finally healed & of course, I wish I had gotten pics every step of the way...
Jen, the only pic I seem to be able to find of Sebastian and his tail is with him in the satalite collar and with the tail bandaged.(wrapped in a straw and duct tape). If this will help, you are welcome to use it.
With my fat boys, the shot glass style ecollars would NOT stay on them, they were able to just pop them right off so I had to use the satalite ones.

Oh, I found one of his tail with the initial injury, pre surgery.

I looked through my Photobucket album, and I have 2 pics of gliders in an E-Collar or the Nich bandage...you're welcome to use both of them if they'd help. Both Micah and Willy Wonka were post-neuter SM's, and I was VERY FORTUNATE that they didn't continue hurting themselves after they healed up.

I also have some of a glider named Staples who SMed one front arm and his tail at the same time-I just need to find them-things got all shifted when I had to reload my computer.

I only have one picture of DaisyMae's back from the injury she sustained from Mareki... It was taken after the wound was debrided and sutured by the veterinarian, but then DaisyMae managed to remove most of the sutures via grooming with her hind foot...
And here are pictures of Mareki's self mutilation of her patagium... warning, these are graphic and not for the faint-hearted

Okay, these will not necessarily be in chronological order. I will simply post them as I find them on the laptop... This first set is the chest wound that Mareki inflicted on herself in September, 2007.
These are pictures of Mareki that show the dominance wound inflicted on her by Darwin (neutered male)when we attempted to introduce them to each other in June, 2007. This was inflicted on her after they had already been housed together for about 10 days.
Jen, you wanted pictures of my Carina Trey's hand. It was pretty much healed when i got her (as you know) & it was hard to get a picture of her hand before the bones fell off because she was so skittish, but here's what I found.
