So I go onto craigs list this morning and theres a free glider. Still feeling so guilty and looking for a forever friend for Lillie since Cyper is so much bigger and older I reply. I find myself overwhelmed in a way I didn't think I would be. She is giving away a beautiful white faced glider with special needs. The baby has nerve damage in her tail and may never glide and that it is genetic and needs a forever home with someone that will love her no matter what. Well my having MS and my daughter having a specialbility (I don't call it a disablity) I didn't think twice. Shes recently weaned (3/4/08) with a vet check and I have no problem taking in special animals to be honest of the 10 or so we have now at least 90% are special. We recently lost my daughters best friend Gizmo a hamster with one eye that lived 7 years which was unheard of and to this day I think of him every single day. (tearing up) Am I getting in over my head? I am new to the whole glider thing and this one comes with a 2 month old friend as well. I just can't say no... I just can't! I know that my daughter needs the friend after loosing Gizmo. And I know shes a mini little Dr. Doolittle! I love this baby already! I just I think need reassurance that I am doing the right thing? In the matter of 1 month I went from having 0 Gliders to possibly 4! I love them all so much and I have the time to work with the lil ones! I feel so bad for this lil girl and I know we can love her no matter what. I know it sounds nuts but I almost feel that Gizmo sent her to my daughter. She has been so depressed since his passing as only he could truly understand her (she says) They are both young enough to bond with my Lillie and they are all girls... does that normally work out ok? Is this my blessing? I know Lillie needs a friend that isn't 100 times bigger than she is. I want to do whats right for her. I love them all so much! Ok I went on and on now just tell me I am nut and of course I will be doing whats right!

I hope you were able to get this special little girl and her companion. With neurological damage, you will probably need to set up the cage with special accomodations. I had two gliders with neurological damage. You can read about them and the accomodations I made for them by going to the thread titled Neurological Damage. Feel free to post here or to call me if you have further questions:

What really about this glider is special needs? if the tail has nerve damage?? and she is geriatric?? there are many older glider who do not have special needs, and many gliders that do not glide for lots of reasons, is there more to this that what is written??

it just doesn't seem to me that there is any special restrictions on her. short of that she is older and needs a forever home. If you don't feel comfortable taking on an older glider that is one thing, butdoesn't sound like there is any major issues that you need to worry about.

Good luck with your new babies, they will bring you lots of joy, each in their own way..

Not geriatric, genetic. I think she was just nervous because the little one had some issues. I don't know if she ever heard back, though.

I have had a special needs gliders and it was one of the greatest times in my life. I learned so much from her and about myself through the process. I had 5 gliders at one time and it can be a lil crazy when one has special needs and they all want and need your time but it is well worth it. I think if oyu have the time and feel that strongly about having this lil baby in your family then you are doing the right thing :-)

(my baby was blind, back legs deformed, broken tail, and half bald, oh and she was 4 or 5 when i got her) yeah the odds were stacked against her until i found her :-)
