Is it normal for the rejected joey to be SO small? You can see the pics below that show him next to his twin sister who is HUGE compared to him. I don't weigh him but he's filled out a little inthe past 2-3 weeks that I've been taking care of him. It just concerns me that he is too tiny and that something is wrong. You can also see that he has lost hair on his head-is that due to bad diet? I'm feeding him puppy formula and have been introducing blended fruits/veggies.

Appreciate any feedback you have!!

there are no pictures available.

But yes it is common for rejected/hand raised joeys to be smaller than non. With rejected babies, they are not receiving all the nutrients from their natural source, which then slows down their growing process. It's only time do we know what the long term effects are on their health will be like. Just like premie babies, they have an earlier start on life and how it effecs their immune systems, we don't know yet.

Can I suggest that you purchase or borrow a scale so that you can monitor more closely the weight of this joey? I did see some good gram scales on Ebay for under $30 shipped, so you may want to check there. Just a suggestion.
Good luck on your joey! smile

I've read Suz's website and read the info before but maybe because this is the first time I've had a rejected joey...

Oh, BTW. Can we get pics of this lil' darlin too??! grin
Do you have a photobucket account? I'd recommend going there and posting your pics with their direct links, it's much easier.

They should be about 4 weeks OOP. Its really bothering me with the size difference although I've read online that sometimes the rejected joey doesn't catch up in size for a few months.

Anyone had this happen to them?

How old are they? It is normal for the rejected joey to be smaller, but he looks a whole lot smaller, and I'm worried about the balding on his head worried

here's some pics of Wiggles (the gray) and Jiggles (the wf). Wiggles was rejected @ 4 days OOP.

these are 3 1/2 weeks OOP: http://s27.photobucket.com/albums/c163/LuckyYouGliders/Kair%20And%20Bear/Previous%20Joeys/Wiggles%20and%20Jiggles%20101906/?start=80

wow he is really greatly smaller than her.I don't think that's due to natural rejection. What kind of schedule do you have him on for feedings? He can be losing his fur due to not getting the proper type and amount of nutrients. I recommend putting him on the joey formula's that suz has listed on her site.

What kind of heating & sleeping set up do you have him in?

Are you sure they are exactly twins? It is possible he was a later joey and came oop to early when the girl did.

Dallas I sent you a PM.

I had a joey which the same thing happened to. Sometimes if the do not eat enough that will happen.
My vet gave me a little tip about the formula that help increase the intake so that they will get more of the nutrients.
It worked great and she bounced back fast. Now she is a big healthy girl.

Hand raised joeys are often smaller than their mother-raised counterparts frown However, if you're just feeding puppy formula alone (with some fruits/veggies) then he may be missing some essential nutrients in his diet.

As for the balding fur, that is typical when the incubator is not humid enough. Revamp your incubator so that you have a damp washcloth on the bottom of the tank, then a few layers of fleece blankets over it. You may need to cover 2/3 of the top of the incubator itself with a towel to help keep the moisture inside the tank. The washcloth should be remoistened every 6-8 hours.
