so, during tent time the other night, two of my gliders began to groom me. i think our bonding is going great. but i have a question. they were in my hair, and after a few moments stopped licking me, and began biting, hard! is this normal for grooming, and how should i go about stopping that behavior?

That is perfectly normal. The only way to get them to stop will be to distract them with something else. Remove them from your hair, place them on your lap or wherever they are comfortable and give them a treat, or start playing with them with a toy.

My new babies groom me, too! laugh They will just lick and lick and lick then they will start nipping a little bit! It doesnt hurt! They are just seeing how their new daddy will handle it! LOL Then they will start going after my nails and cuticles! shakehead Thats a little more uncomfortable but I just pull my hand away just a little to make them stop and then rub on them and they start licking again! They are just learning how to do it, I think! agree

yea, this happens to me every night in tent time too. but only one of my girls does it. (I just went to the vet today and asked about this) The vet said it is perfectly normal and there really isn't any explanation as to why they do it. Its not b/c of the smell of your shampoo like i thought. He's got raccoons as pets and said THEY even bite his scalp and it hurts even more from them. Linda is right, I try everything to distract Lotus when she starts to bite on my head. A feather, a straw, anything and it usually works.

I love the whole grooming thing...I haven't figured out why they pick at my cuticles, but glad to hear (thank you Micah) that I'm not the only one apparently in need of a manicure!

Mine go after my nails/cuticles too and it's not pleasnt...usually, I just say firmly "not nice" and distract them and they stop..

Yeah... They will lick for a second and then go straight for the nails! They are pretty gentle, for the most part, but every once in a while they will get a little overzealous and go for them full speed ahead! Then I just move my hand and look at them and they look at me like... HELLOOOOO?!?!? We are trying to help you, here! shakehead

I love when they groom me, though! grin

I know what you mean! LOL It can be a bit shocking the first couple of times they do it! LOL

I still jerk a little bit when they get me good but then I just slowly move my hand away and they start licking again! shakehead LOL
