My mom has the best of intentions, but her body couldn't follow thru. Her gliders had a set of joeys, Adam & Eve. Yesterday, she brought Eve to me because she found her alone on the floor of the cage and she kept climbing out of the pouch. There were other signs of rejection. I made the mixture on Suz's page and printed out the instructions. I questioned my mom closely as to whether she could handle feeding every hour on the hour and she assured me she could. My fears came to a head when I tried for 2 1/2 hours to call her last night, with no answer. I finally got in my car and made a 20 minute drive in 9 min. She slept thru at least two feedings. Eve is extremely dehydrated. I immediately called my vets, only to find both were already out on emergency calls!!!! The soonest we could get to any vet is in 45 min. If Eve makes it, she will be coming back home with me. We are leaving for the vet now.

Awww... poor baby. It's tough staying up all night like that, so I don't blame your mom at all. I hope she makes it!

We're at the vet now, waiting for her to come in. Eve weighs .08 ounces. Her brother, Adam, weighs 1.1 ounces. When they were first OOP, Eve was definitely bigger.
I don't blame my mom at all. She's 76 and takes a lot of meds that make her so sleepy.

Is she eating now?? How old is she? You know what.. don't answer these silly questions.. just leave!!

Sending hugs and prayers your way! Poor little Eve, and I know it's rough doing late nite feedings and Hope wasn't even that little when she was rejected and feedings were every 2 hrs. Your mom must feel bad..hugs for her too!

Under those circumstance.... I would def take her with you... so your Mom can rest.

We're here now. The vet is going to sub-q her and send fluids home so I can do it.

OK. Sub-q'd and sending me home with enough to sub-q her for up to a week, 4-6 times a day. She said she should be ok within a week and may even be strong enough to be put back with mama! She is only 22 grams :-(. Brother Adam is 31 grams! I'll keep you posted! Thank you for the prayers!

Glad to hear that they are doing better.

My mom thinks they were definitely OOP July 8 but may have been as early as July 1. But I'm afraid I have very upsetting news. When we arrived home, my mom tossed a piece of fleece at me, saying "Here is her (Eve's) blankie". I took it and since my hands were full, threw it over my shoulder and got out of the car. My mom came into the house a couple of minutes later, holding Eve. She forgot that she had wrapped Eve up in the fleece she just tossed to me! Eve landed on the sidewalk. She is not doing good at all. She won't eat and barely moves. I called the vet but she said there really wasn't anything she could do. I'm to keep her warm and try to get her to drink or eat. I am so heartbroken. I haven't given her many feedings but I already understand how strongly attached you can get by handraising a joey. Please, pray hard for Eve.

OMG, that is horrible.....that poor little baby. I am praying for that little baby.
Please take it to the vet now, don't let the little darling suffer, the vet can do something about that. If it can't be saved, put the little one to sleep so it isn't in pain.
This is so awful, my heart hurts for this sweet baby.
Please, please, please take her back to the vet.

I called my vet as soon as this happened. She said there was nothing she could do to help her that I couldn't do. She was quiet for a few minutes but soon perked up and started moving around. She didn't appear to be in any pain. Believe it or not, she seems to be doing great! She isn't crazy about eating but I'm persistent and she has had 9 ml in 7 1/2 hours plus I sub-q'd her an hour ago. She is now sleeping in my bra. When she gets hungry, she wiggles and literally climbs out of my bra in a matter of seconds. She doesn't give me much warning! She has the sweetest, most angelic, innocent and cute little face I swear I have ever seen on a glider! OMG, I am so in love with her! It's going to break my heart to have to give her back to my mom when she's weaned.

Well if you really want to keep him maybe your mom will let you since you are raising him. He wouldn't make it without you.

I wouldn't give her back. You saved her, twice. I am not trying to be mean, but I wouldn't if it were me....JMHO.

I wouldn't give her back either. You are going to be so bonded with her. I'm so glad she has perked up. How are you going to handle sleeping if you have to feed her so often? Are you going to keep her in your bra 24/7? Just curious, never had any joeys.

IF you give her back to your mom what is she going to do with the glider? It sounds like your mom has enough going on and and maybe she should just understand that there is a time and a place where you have to call it quits and give in for the best interest of the animals. That baby would be better off with you and you will have a bond...you are that babies momma now...and she will be lost without you.
