I see so many posts that suggest that getting your glider neutered automatically elimantes his smell. This is absolutely NOT true. It probably helps, but my male glider is neutered and he still scent marks and he still smells. I also know other people on the board that have neutered males that still scent mark. My male has been neutered since 5 months of age.

Neutering reduced the smell with my boy but didn't take it away. I do think the HPW is helping though. My boys have only been on it a few days and I don't smell them much at all.

I wish you could come over and "smell" my neutered boys. There is NO smell to them. Actually, they kinda smell like a baby. (as in baby powder..lol no joke)

All of our gliders are on PML along with many other natural flowers and things they would get in the wild.

Now my un neutered boys? They have a musky scent ..but doesn't bother me at all. I like it! smile

All gliders have a musk. It's part of being a glider. Neutered males smell is greatly reduced compared to intact males though... I got 3 of my boys neutered on Tuesday and just the smell difference of having them out of the house while they were at the vets office was amazing. I'm so glad I got them neutered because I can already smell a difference.

Wow- I have 5 neutered males, 1 sterile male and 2 intact males.

My neutered males definately smell less. If at all! I feed HPW, also. I think neutering, combined with diet, makes a huge difference in the smell.

No one has claimed that neutering WILL eliminate any and all smell. Does it do that for some? No... gliders will always have some "smell" but not necessarily a stink. My neutered boy doesn't smell any worse than my girls. I don't notice it at all. Do some neutered boys still smell? Yeah. I haven't experienced it, but some obviously mark more than others.

But in comparing Toby (neutered) and Oreo (intact) I'd have to say that neutering DEFINITELY helps - big time! Oreo is stinky, but that also could be from living on a not-so-great diet up til a week ago. However, I distinctly remember how Chester smelled, and it's just like Oreo.

It's case by case, but for the majority, it usually will eliminate most of the smell.

My pair has been on HPW diet for almost a year now. I haven't noticed a difference in smell versus other diets. It's definatly from scent marking as I watch the little bugger doing it all the time. I had him out of his cage yesterday and he rubbed his little belly on everything. Kind of cute because he looked like a little snake slithering back and forth. I just see so many posts about people stating neutering will totally eliminate smell and I think that it is misleading. It's not a 100% guarentee.

My neutered male smells no more than my female and he loves to mark & rub his chest on everything. I've been around an intact male suggie and let me tell you they smell much worse....the smell is pretty strong.
