Just got back from the vet. She wouldn't relieve herself so I'm hoping she will in the morning or give me something at home thats useful. They injected calcium gluconate into her fluids at I believe 0.1mL calcium to 1.0mL fluid (unless he meant 0.01 because 1:10 seems a bit high in my mind but what do I know).

She actually weighed in at 42g before her nightly injection, up from 36.7g less than 2 days ago. Her body temperature is actually warm to the touch now and her eyes are wide open occasionally. She actually crabbed at me for a second when I got home from work like she used to when trying to protect her sleeping areas. Actually glad to hear a more normal reaction such as that. She can now suspend herself above a baby food jar lid with food in it, and eat herself. The biggest problems are her nose getting messy with how her head's tilted, and her getting her paws IN the food after eating a bit, only to splash around, making a mess, when trying to get it off. She's relieved herself numerous times today, so I'm told and its has been messy. Stools are no longer solid, but they're still a good color.

Hopefully she'll continue improving at the rate she has today, so she can be back to her old self again

Did they run any tests on the messy stool by chance? Is she still on the Flagyl?

I'll update on the fecal float when they call to give me the results. She is still on all 3 meds.

bought a scale that seems to show her weighing around 43-44g (doesn't go to the 10th)

I'm going to try getting her on some more solid foods again and try to get off ensure. Not sure if its the product or not, but having her stools all of a sudden become muddy after drinking more of the stuff seems to be her showing some of the known side effects. Will open new bottles/jars of juice w/yogurt and chicken baby food to try firming them up. Also looking to get some apple sauce later since it'll be easier for her to eat herself

edit:
she's loving the bml more than anything else

I've been told that the ensure will cause constipation. But if she likes the bml better, I say go for that. Keep us updated on this little girl!

More common:
Confusion; convulsions (seizures); decrease in urine volume; dryness of mouth; frequent urination; increased thirst; irregular heartbeat; mood or mental changes; muscle cramps or pain; numbness or tingling in hands, feet, or lips; respiratory distress, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; unexplained nervousness; unusual tiredness or weakness; weakness or heaviness of legs; weak pulse

Other problems may occur that usually do not need medical attention. They may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the enteral nutrition formula. However, check with your doctor if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome: Constipation; diarrhea; nausea or vomiting

...she was doing great last night with eating, energy, and her eyes were wide open...this morning she was sprawled out and wouldn't eat. I immediately took her to the vet. After being examed and them having consulted with another vet, her breathing slowed to a quick inhale every 10 seconds or so and her body being still with eyes open...I had them give her the shot to end the suffering she seemed to have. A few seconds later, with her eyes wide open, she stopped.

I have been keeping up with your post. So sorry it came to that - a very difficult decision for you to have to make. She fought so hard to hang on, but you don't want to see them suffer when there is no hope. Know you will miss her .

They asked when filling out the paperwork whether I wanted her ashes...no I don't...but when they brought her in right after the shot, the more I held her, the more I wanted them. The problem is I'd never want to get rid of them. They'd just stay there reminding me of the last 2 weeks. On the other side, she's be cremated by herself this way and I could try my hardest to give her a proper funeral. I'd feel slightly better if I could, but I really doubt I'd be able to part with them. Have a few hours to make my final decision, or rather change it, but I'm sure the most logical answer would be no.

I am so very sorry to hear this. You did everything you could, and she knew you were fighting along beside her. My deepest sympathies to you..

The ashes are a personal choice, of course. However, they do give them back to you in a nice "box" that can be displayed or tucked into a drawer until such a time as you feel more able to view them.

May your heart heal with time. Know she is healthy and pain free, waiting for you on the Other side.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I was pulling for your baby, and I know she appreciated everything that you've done for her, including the decision to let her cross the bridge. I know she'll be waiting for you there.

THE RAINBOW BECKONS

In loving memory of my angels who have crossed over the rainbow bridge

The rainbow has beckoned
It's calling you home
To meadows and forest
In which you may roam

My heart it grows heavy
To think you might leave
I'd be all alone then
Alone then to grieve

I know deep inside me
That you cannot stay
The pain that you're feeling
Grows more night and day

You look at me asking
In your silent way
To let you go home now
"Please let me" you say

You say there's no pain there
No fear and no hate
Just peace and well being
Once you're through the gate

You tell me you'll always
Hold me in your heart
That time and that distance
Can't keep us apart

And if I should need you
At my side you'll be
Tho I cannot see you
You'll be there with me

You promise to wait at
the rainbow for me
To wait `til I join you
Together to be

I just want to hold you
And beg you to stay
To ask please don't leave me
Alone on this day

Yet deep in my heart know
I must let you go
You must make the journey
now to the rainbow

I bow down my head then
The tears fill my eyes
I give you my blessing
My love now to fly

So fly to the rainbow
And wait there for me
Some day I will join you
Together to be

I join in the chorus of people who were rooting, and am very sad she didn't make it. Did they do a necropsy?

There really seemed to be no reason she would go downhill like this after last night. She was SO well...and the memories just don't stop playing.

They're doing the exam tonight.

My other glider currently weighs 92g

I'm so sorry. I was really rooting for her. I hate when these discussions go to Real Stories . . . just breaks my heart. My condolences. Give your other glider hugs and snuggles for me.

Oh, no! I am so, so sorry! You and she worked so hard! I love the poem by Chris up there. It helps, a lot. Seek, she knows how much you loved her. She knows. She will be with friends until you can meet her at the bridge. She is still there, can't you feel her? She will always be there, just like you are there for her, too.

The B vitamins and Vitamin E are different. Listen to Ellen. She knows what she's talking about. So often, folks have to tell their vets what the gliders need. Believe me, you can trust what Ellen says. She's very glider-knowledgeable and has one of the best vets in the country.

I am so sorry for the loss of your baby. I know you feel helpless, but remember you did everything in your power that you were able to do, to get her all the help you could and she is at peace now. Please let us know what you learn from her neocropsy. Sending prayers and hugs your way.

I guess whats taking so long is the necropsy they did on site didn't show anything noteworthy so they sent her somewhere else to have a more thorough exam done...

...I feel so bad everytime I think about her getting cut up

Preliminary results are in and they're going to do a further exam. They found inflammatory brain lesions but unsure yet as to what caused them

Were the "inflammatory brain lesions" brain abscesses, more of a meningitis picture, or vasculitis like? Could you share the report when you get it? Thanks.
