My baby seems to love me so much she feels compelled to hurt me. :|

Sweetpea is coming along leaps and bounds (first letting me pick her up while she sleeps, then barking, then letting me hold her while she sleeps!)-- and has also become increasingly brazen when it comes to my hands in her cage.

She'll hop on me no problem, and first there come the sweet little licks, and then the very firm biting. That was all fine and good, but now she seems intent on overpreening the webbing between my fingers, and my finger and thumb. D: AND IT HURTS!

She's not biting me out of fear, I don't htink, or else-- you know, she'd crab, or leave my hand. She just seems content to sit on my knuckles and dig away at my skin, so sweetly. :|

Is it a bitey 'phase'? Will she get over it? Do I just need to grin and bear it for the love of Sweetpea? Thank you guys!

Nope, she won't get over it! She likes to groom you! I gently push mine away when they doing the digging and biting...

So I take it that despite THE PAIN this is a very good thing, as far as my relationship with sweetpea goes, right? By the way suggiegramma, that glider in your avatar is beautiful!

Well... How old is your little one? My Dante was like that! His "love nips", as I call them, were VERY frequent! They never HURT HURT! But every now and then, he would become a bit overzealous and I would have to make a little pssssst sound to get him to stop!


He would look at me like... What? LOL But now that he is older AND neutered, he hasnt nipped me once! So it DEFINITELY could be a phase.


Just dont let her do it. Distract her with something else! A treat or feather and see if that pulls her attention from your hand!

My guys tend to smell by biting. If I have any fun new smells on my hands they will taste me by biting.

no gettin over that that I know of. my sweetest cuddle bug is like that with me. and yes it does HURT! lol. but they are doing it out of love

While I agree with you that it's a good sign as far as your bonding is going, she doesn't realize that she's hurting you. You probably need to start gently discouraging her when it starts to hurt, so she will learn that you don't like it. Making the 'psssst' sound works, or you can move your hand away and say no - she will learn!

Malichai was like that when i got him but he has calmed down so much. The Pssstt sound really does make a difference if you do it consistently when your baby goes to bite you. bonding will help alot also. At first Mali didn't even want us to touch him and now he is all over me during tent time. Also every time I would go to check on them in their pouch i would give him a mealie, it is hard to crab or bite if your mouth is full of mealies...............

LOL I swear I have a bald spot on the back of my head! Bella LOVES to crawl up into my long hair and groom a spot at the base of my skull!!! It feels weird! And you can hear it! Ugh! LOL If I pull her out of my hair, she plays awhile or lets me pet her, then she goes right back in. If she wasn't grooming my head I would think she was hiding.

Mojo used to do the same thing to the spot between my finger and thumb! But the first time I made the pssssst sound he looked at me like "What" LOL it was so cute then he started nibbling really lightly again then bit me and I repeated the pssst sound the he looked at me again and started licking me as if to say sorry mom. He is such a sweet heart. I really havent had a problem with him biting since. Well at least not biting me LOL!
