My platinum mosaic Florianna has started to chew underneath her arm. The fur is gone and it looks like she may have gone down into the muscle a little bit. It's about the size of a dime.

Now here's the question...I already have her in an e-collar and separated from her cage mates. My er vet knows absolutely nothing about gliders...

Should I go ahead and bring her to the er or wait till morning for my regular vet to open. I didn't know if she might need pain meds or not. She has not been crabby and does not seem to be trying to get at the wound.

By the way, how long before she stops trying to get out of the e-collar? It's been about 15 minutes and she's still going strong!

She won't give up soon on the ecollar. Go to the vet, get pain meds, see your real vet tomorrow.

Call me
806-274-9177

She might fight the collar for hours. I had one fight it for 3 weeks. frown

Are you sure you are seeing muscle?
Are you sure she did it to herself?

She really should have some pain meds today.
And probably a topical to keep infection from setting in. - even neosporin with pain releiver can be used since she is in e-collar.

... call me if you can - or if you are not already on with someone else.

My advice would be to wait until morning to take her to her normal vet. There really isn't anything that the ER vet is going to be able to do for her.

As for the e-collar, she'll wear herself out soon. I know it's a hard thing to watch but it's for the best.

personally I would go to the EVET NOW! I wouldn't wait, because it could be life or death. and it is NOT true that the E-vet can't do anything. I would go, Good luck with your baby.

Virginia is on her way to the e-vet. Closer inspection of the wound looks like it may just be superficial and not into the muscle, but Virginia is not taking any chances. She will get it cleaned and some meds for her and then see her regular vet in the morning and discuss whether it should be closed or not. She will get a full physical examination at that time.

Florianna has already gotten out of the e-collar once, so Virginia looks to have a long night ahead of her. Keep them in your prayers.

Just got back. They gave her Torb fir the pain and Sulpha Trim in case infection sets in. The vet said it looks more like a laceration, not an overgrooming or self-mutilation, so she'll probably have to be sewn up by Dr. King in the morning.

So now I'm off to tear the cage apart to make sure there's nothing anyone else can get cut on! (Assuming that's what it is).

I don't have the e-collar on her right now, she's laying in my lap asleep. I think the Torb knocked her out!

Thanks for everybody's help, support, hugs, thoughts and prayers. I needed them! I had just gotten back from the HUMAN Emergency Room, I had another blasted migraine and had to be treated there to get rid of it. Then this happened! I guess when it rains, it pours, huh?

She's eating pretty well. I have her in my lap and I gave her some mealies in a cup so she could pick which ones she wanted. LOL

After having quite a few mealies, she fell asleep with her head hanging over the cup with two mealies still in her hand. roflmao roflmao

Well....I didn't have the heart to put the e-collar back on her after she got it off so I stayed up all night with her in my lap. She slept well and seems to be doing pretty good. Waiting for 9:00 for Dr. King to open up...

Thanks Linda, I appreciate it!

Prayers sent for her to heal fast!

You can use cotton balls to go over the cage and toys with to see if it snags on anything. On an iron cage, a nail file works great to get rid of a "spur".

I'm leaving for Florida on Thursday to deliver Mowgli to Meghan (Oakley) and I've decided I'm going to take her with me. I can't bear to leave her while she's not feeling good.

I haven't been able to find ANYTHING in their cage to cause something like this.

Thanks for updating everyone Bourbon, I really appreciate it. I hate to let her out of my sight and it's hard to get on the computer.
