Just wondering why my sugar glider quit eating his fruits when I started feeding the HPW diet? I have read on here that alot of people have the same problem. So my question is what can be done about it? Will it mess up the ca:ph ratio for the HPW diet?

What diet did you have your sugar glider on, before you started feeding HPW? There are 3 things you can do: serve the fruits and vegetables separate from the HPW. Some gliders are so picky when it comes to dinner. You could just keep serving them together. Or you can serve fruits first, and then veggies and their HPW later. That way they have to get their fruits to get the good stuff. I tried serving HPW separate from their fruits and veggies and I realized they eat more if it's mixed all together. Hope that helps.

We aren't sure why - it may have something to do with the sweetness of the honey. It happens alot with HPW. Nicole has some good suggestions - you could also try smoothing the fruits.

Here are recipes for the blended fruits and veggies (I would substitute the honey with more juice because there is already plenty of honey in the HPW):
Veggie Relish
1 - 32 oz bag of mixed vegetables, defrosted (green beans, sweetcorn, carrots and peas) Birds Eye Classic is the best. *NO lima beans! *NO salt! 4 - fl oz of white grape juice 4 - tbsp of honey
Put half of everything into blender and blend until consistency of relish, do same with other half and mix together. Freeze in ice cube trays and give 1 cube per glider. Fruit Smoothie
5 - 6 lb bag of mixed fruit 4 oz baby white grapefruit juice(or almost any other juices) 2 - 4 Tbsp of honey ½ c of Dannon French Vanilla Yogurt
Just defrost your bag of fruit (if frozen) & drain the juice, and then place in blender & blend until smooth. Pour into ice cube trays and then serve 1 cube per night to a pair of gliders.

Fruits aren't really necessary. If your gliders are eating vegetables, they are getting all that they need in those categories. Just make sure they get a variety of vegetables.

Just defrost your bag of fruit (if frozen) & drain the juice, and then place in blender & blend until smooth. Pour into ice cube trays and then serve 1 cube per night to a pair of gliders. Please do keep in mind when feeding the HPW diet it is up to you to make sure to balance the fruits and veggies at an ideal ratio of 2:1 (Ca:P). The relish and smoothie here are very inverse and no where near 2:1. You do not have to add the honey or juice to the "smoothie" to make a blended version that gliders will love and eat (or even use the poor ratio fruits, it is possible to make mixes in proper ratio). Here's some info I posted in another thread: When you are feeding HPW you want to keep in mind a ratio of 2:1 for the Ca:P for the fruits and veggies part of the diet. The mix itself I believe is 1:1 (or 1.29:1, can't remember). The mixed fruits (assuming its a Dole Mix which contains peaches, strawberries, pineapples, honeydew, and grapes) are aprox a overall ratio of 0.7:1 for Ca:P for everything all together. The grape juice is 1.34:1, plain yogurt is 1.28:1, honey averages around 1.34:1 but these are all much smaller componentes of the Fruit Smoothie as a whole. Again, the ratio for the frozen mixed veggies all together is aprox 0.43:1 (you want 2:1). Im sure the juice and honey make the mix only slightly better with their ratio's of 1.34:1 but not by much. The smoothie and relish are not 2:1 Ca:P ratio. http://www.glidercentral.net/ubbthreads/...lish#Post726888

What I do is this: These are all frozen: A LARGE bag of green beans, a large but smaller bag of baby carrots, a small bag of peas and a small bag of corn. There are other things you can mix in. I found a bag of greenbeans / wax beans / baby carrots which worked well. Also a bag or two of chopped collard greens. (I use roughly equal to the size of the bag of green beans.) Then one LARGE, fresh sweet potato. Additional ingredients: a jar of unsweetened apple sauce, a smallish sized papaya. Cook the sweet potato in the microwave until it is quite soft. Then peel it and mash it with a fork into the mixing bowl. Put the bag of collard greens (poke a hole or two) in the microwave for about 4 minutes. You can do these things the day before - which is usually when I get everything out and set it on the counter to defrost. Cut, peel, and de-seed the papaya and mash it, also. In the food processor, chop up the green beans and carrots until they are in small (about the same size of the peas) chunks. Put all that into a large mixing bowl. Stir in the collard greens and the now-mashed sweet potato and papaya. Add the whole jar of apple sauce and stir well. When that is well mixed, if it is too dry to stir well, add some fruit juice. I use either cranberry juice, or the Gerber juice with yogurt. I usually don't have to use much at all, if any. Put a small amount of peas and corn into the bottom of ice cube trays. I kinda cover the bottom of each cube. I use 4-6 peas, and 4-6 pieces of corn. Then, press the mixed up veggies in on top. I really pack 'em in tight - get as much as I can in each cube. Then - freeze 'em! Sometimes I also stir in some blueberries or cherries. A few times I've added some mashed avocado to the mix. You can really add whatever you like - within reason! Once the cubes are frozen, I run warm water across the back of the ice cube trays, then pop the cubes into a zip lock freezer bag. I take out the correct amount each night and microwave them for a short period of time, on low power. Enough so that they are still icy, but start to be a bit mushy. This writes up very long, and sounds complex. But the whole thing takes me about 1/2 an hour once a month for 17 gliders. I give each pair of gliders one and 1/2 cubes. That's the amount that I've found that they will eat with very few left overs. More, they leave too much. Less, they polish the bowl clean, and I'm afraid they didn't get enough.
