How do I know if a glider is a leucistic or white mosaic. The glider is white with a hint of charcoal on the ears, and a small bit of black beneath the nose above the mouth. Parents are mosaic and leucistic.

That's a mosaic and it sounds like a cute one too! ^-^ A glider is only a leu if they're all white. If there's any black or grey on them if they're mostly white, then they're mosaics. :3 Just like, a glider that looks grey but has white hands and feet is a mosaic.

A glider is only a leu if they're all white. Not true. Lots of leus have gray tipped ears. Sometimes a picture can make it clear which one it is (mo or leu) and sometimes if it is only gray on the ears, you will not know what it is until it produces babies.

Like this: *No, I'm not choking her, lol, she's just a squirmybutt.

Atreyu is a leucistic and he has a little bit of gray on the tips of his ears. I know some leus have much darker ear tips, though. Here's a decent picture that shows his ears. I'm also wondering about the black on the mouth though???

Okay. I think I understand. You all pointed out that purple area on the bottom of the nose. It just looks darker than the purple in the picture. However, you must be right, because at 2 am when I was up, it was barely visible. My camera needs a charger, so pics aren't possible right now. Besides the ears are lighter than the one above. I also understand that we may not be sure until we are sure, if a baby turns out mosaic.
So, am I getting this right? A normal mosaic has a base of grey. A white mosaic has a base of white (as in a leucistic in which the mosaic is disguised / hidden by the already white base)?
If this is the case, a white mosaic can then have offspring that are 100% het for leucistic?
Thanks for your help.

Parents are mosaic and leucistic. In order for the joey to be a leu, the mosaic parent would also have to be carrying the leu gene. Do you know if they are?

Parents are mosaic and leucistic. My Bad! I thought she meant that one parent was a leu and the other was mosaic!

It is very easy to tell if the mosaic parent does not carry the Leu gene. It cannot be a Leu if the mosaic parent is not a definite het for Leucistic

Thanks for your help. Right to the first (if i'm understanding correctly) lol you would have to breed your white mosaic to a leu in order to produce offspring that are definatley 100% leu. Just because the glider is white (white mosaic) doesn't mean the offspring will be white. The White mo could produce an almost completely gray glider with just white hands and feet. It's luck of the draw with mosaics. I hope i'm understanding your question correctly to help lol Right now as I understand it, your glider is a 100% leu het. (mosaic parent with no leu background, and a leu) Even if you pair your mo with another 100% leu het the offspring would either be leu or 66% leu het. The only way to for sure produce a 100% leu het with your glider is to pair it with another leu. I hope that wasn't to confusing, and I hope it helped you.

My Bad! I thought she meant that one parent was a leu and the other was mosaic! No I think it's my bad - I didn't realize you asked if the mo had the leu gene. I thought you were asking if either of the parents were a leu. So is the mosaic parent a leu het Anngie?
