i have had my gliders for 1 year and i have a question for anyone. i am not a breeder but gliders had two babies and wanted to trade with someone for fish supplies. but someone told me you have to have a breeders permit to do that. i live in michigan. but i read someone you dont have to have one only if your colony has more then 3 females. if your anyone knows where i can information. i call my local usda and they had no clue.

The USDA laws state that if you have more than 3 breeding females and are selling the offspring, then you must have a USDA licence.

Trading for other goods is considered selling (it isn't limited to actual exchange of money).

I received information from the Western Region APHIS office. My question to his office was:

Can you please tell me what the federal regualations are regarding the possession and breeding of sugar gliders by an individual? At what point should someone be licensed by the USDA, etc.

Dean Wonsbeck, APHIS is the contact person. I received some interesting feedback.

I have his phone number and email if anyone wants to contact him directly. I'm just passing on information, not saying whether it is correct information or not, but it is directly from APHIS in writing!
