I know that it is LEGAL to keep sugar gliders as pets.

Quote:
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources does not regulate
the possession of sugar gliders because they are not a native species to
Indiana. Therefore, no permit is required by the Department of Natural
Resources.

I currently have four female gliders, a neutered male glider, and two neutered male dogs. [sorry if the spelling is wrong, i'm horrible at it.]

Back on track,
My question is would I need to apply for a USDA licences since I currently have four gliders, even if my state, Indiana, doesn't regulate them?
I've tried looking on the USDA site, but its just to confusing to find anything on there.

Thanks in advance
Kitty

P.S. I don't plan on breeding anytime in the near or far future.

it looks to me like you wouldnt. now maybe if you wanted to start breeding and selling or something like that... but surely not if you just keep them as pets!

Since your males are neutered (all species) and you have no intention of breeding ANYTHING, then a USDA license is not required.

I've always been of the belief that it doesn't matter if you're talking dogs, cats, gliders, birds, whatever...if you have more than 3 females who are CAPABLE of breeding, that's when you need the license. But if your male gliders are neutered and you have NO INTENTION to breed your girls anywhere in the future, you're in the clear.

I know there'll be a couple other Hoosier folk checking into this thread...I think we'll get a confirmation on that.

I know a couple of people at the federal building in Cincinnati that are U.S. Atty's, I will ask them and get back with you by next weekend, after 15 years in law enforcement, I should be able to find out something for you.

I checked with my friend and MINKASMOM is correct. As long as you have the males neutered and do not intend on breeding, no need to get the license, they are considered pets only by law.
