Wow, beautiful joey! I have a Mosaic, Leu pair... their first joey was just a WF and he had a tiny little break in his stripe.... I thought he may be a MO at first, but his little hands were not white, so he was definitely a WF... It would be really cool if we could breed for this trait!

He is gorgeous Misty. Congrats on the baby. I think it would be interesting to try and breed for that trait. Maybe you and Danielle should get together and see. I know she tends to have many WFB joeys.

What a cutie. My last WFB joey had a broken stripe. He was a 3+ gen though. His parents don't have broken stripes on the other hand.

What is his lineage? The lineages of the others with broken stripes? I wonder if there is a connection in the family trees that this could be coming from.
I had one little girl here, Isis, who also has a broken stripe. She is a 3rd gen wfb.

My 2nd generation WFB has a broken stripe. So far non of her joeys have it. I'm pretty sure she's also a "super whiteface" dunno if that makes a difference or not. (sorry not the best picture, but the best I could find! lol) Her lineage is from Pele/ Iris, Cereal, and Old Yeller.

So far two out of three white faces from my pair have all had broken stripes as well. I thought it had something to do with the leucistic gene, but maybe not.

Thanks for sharing your pictures, everyone. This is my boy's lineage, Dancing, if you want to try & notice any similarities with other broken-striped gliders: http://www.thepetglider.com/pedigree/modules/animal/pedigree.php?pedid=4211The WFB is on the mother's side. I definitely think it would be cool if someone wanted to start trying to breed for this trait. I could keep him & try for that if I retired & re-homed one of my other pairs (which we are considering doing)....but I don't have to be the one to do it. Anyone, feel free to PM me if you have a really young female with a broken stripe & good lineage. If anyone else has pics to share of their broken-stripe non-mosaic babies, feel free to post them here. I'm interested in seeing if there are many of these little guys out there. Misty

I wonder if you would get the same results if you had him paired with a higher gen WFB.

I think it's from the lightness of the WFBs too. Although the mom to this joey has a small break (which doesn't seem to be as noticeable now as when she was younger). I definitely think it'd be cool to try to breed in the trait, until we had a few lines of joeys with just a diamond on their head & a big break in the stripe or a really light stripe. It seems like this could be happening enough that some breeders could get a few pairs from different lines of broken-striped WFBs breeding & see what happens. Misty

Do you think you would need to pair two broken stripes together or a really light WFB and broken stripe?

Our parent gliders are a 1st gen WFB girl with a little break in her stripe and a platinum-colored white mosaic who also has kind of a patch on his head & a break in the stripe. I was assuming that he got the trait from his mother though & it does sound like it typically comes from WFBs. Although my mosaic that is not WF also has a small break in his stripe just below the diamond on his head. However his father was a WF leucistic, possible a trait shared by Mo's and WFB? ETA: It doesn't seem like the break is a 'mosaic' trait, there is no white patch-just a break. (baby picture as he has powdered so much now you can't see the break)

I think it'd definitely be a neat idea to pair 2 broken-striped WFs together and see if they produce joeys with even larger broken stripes. Maybe it could get so big the stripe would almost disappear, lol! I have a couple broken-striped WFs. One of my joeys, Alexander, has one of the biggest broken stripes here: As a wee joey More recent His mother and grandmother have broken stripes as well. Mother Grandmother

Perhaps it's just me but, if the glider has a mosaic parent, we can't count them as wfb with broken stripes. There is no way to rule out the mosaic as being a contributing factor.

Has anyone actually ever seen a WF with a broken stripe from mosaic parents actually prove out though? I mean with JUST a broken stripe- no white hands and feet? I've seen people advertise those as 'possible' mosaics, but I've never seen anyone prove them out... I would be interested to know if there was a case though! IMO I don't believe the broken stripe has really anything to do with the mosaic gene. Unless there is white involved. Don't we characterize mosaic as any glider with random patches of WHITE? Where's the white in a broken stripe? I believe they are different factors completely. JMO of course!

Lol! Sorry IowaMisty, but I'm going to have to decline. I've got too much on my plate at the moment.
