When we know we are going out of town, could we (as sugar glider owners) put something like pellets (I know many don't feed their gliders pellets because I don't) in their cage for them to have as back up if something like this was to happen again? They would have at least pellets and water to try to survive on...
^if I can't ask this here, please let me know and I will start another post. I just never know lol.

I think that is a very wise thing to do. Pet Pro or ZooKeepers in the cage will give them something to eat (better than nothing at all) in cases like this. Also some dried fruits mixed in with the pellets would be good too.
Also, multiple water sources in the cage. Bottles and bowls so that they don't run out of water.

Thanks for the confirmation. The only person other than myself that has fed my gliders is my mom. And she will soon be moving to California. I have a close friend who lives up the street from me who has her own sugar gliders and I know for a fact she would take excellent care of mine if ever need be, but what happens when she is not available? I would have to resort to finding someone I don't know I can trust yet....and that scares me.

Some veterinarians will board animals, granted it would be expensive but better than someone you don't know or can't trust. Thankfully I have my ex to feed, he feeds every Monday and Thursday nights and when I go away for the weekend I usually pack the suggies up and take them along.

I think that a list of people willing to glider sit would be a great idea. Everyone should talk about that a little more...

I'm in New Jersey. I work from home. I have 2 Gliders. I am part owner in a pet sitting/dog walking business and would gladly watch gliders in NJ.

This is one of the things everyone should do that owns gliders. Have an emergency plan. If for some reason you can't care for your gliders for any amount of time you should have at least two different people that you trust to watch them. If they don't have gliders of their own you should train them on how to care for them. Also have a "packet" made up that has all of your directions and info on gliders. That way if they forget something they have it to look at. Most of the time we are able to plan ahead but sometimes things come up and we need someone immediatly. Plan for the unexpected.
I travel a lot back and forth to FL. Most of the time I pack up my glider gang and take them with me. But when I don't take them I have two really good friends (that I met on GC) who I can call to watch them while I'm gone. If one can't do it then I call the other. We watch each other's gliders if one of us has to leave town or has an emergency.

I wouldn't know, For the last three years of my life I have not left. I can't go camping, sleepovers, anything all nighter, I worry too much!
But i have been thinking about going camping this year, But it just scares me to death to leave them behind! Then finding someone who I can trust and properly care for them is another story, Nobody is good enough for my babies!

I used to have a link with glider sitters for each state. Does anyone know what happened to that? It's probably been a year since I've seen it though...

I just sent out an email from GliderSitters asking for people to up date their info if they are still interested/willing to glider sit for others. We'll see what happens.
A few years ago, there was interest in a site like this so I created it. I don't consider it "my" site, but basically a database for those that can/want to use it.
If anyone would like to come on as a moderator to help get it up to date, just send me a pm.

What do you do if a glider that you are glider sitting with gets sick while you are taking care of it? Would it be best to have the owner sign something stating that they would be responsible for all medical expenses? I have some concerns about that, but otherwise wouldn't mind glider sitting here in central OK.

Contracts are always a good idea when glider sitting or fostering someone else's gliders. They should spell out just what is expected on both sides. Who pays for what, what to do if a glider gets ill or injured, also what happens if the owner never comes back for the gliders and what kind of time frame before they are considered abandoned (yes, it does happen).
I have contracts for glider sitting, longer term fostering as well as fostering for rehap purposes.

I think the idea of having a contact list for glider sitting is a great idea. Unfortuantely, I need to find a few more people out our way who are not so far apart. Gliders in WA are hard to find and very people seem to know anything about them. When I go into a pet store, it seems most the time that I am the one doing the educating these days. LOL

Thanks Teresa. I would definitely feel better about it if I had a contract.
