It seems the twins are drinking all the Ensure and not touching much of the fruit/veg/protein. They do seem to taste a bit of their yogurt/applesauce mix. I just want to make sure that they are getting all they need.

When it comes to veggies, what veggies to you give raw vs. cooked. I mean in the wild they do not have stoves!

I also provide them with Gladeraid and of course their sprinkle of calcium made specially for gliders which I purchase at S & S Exotics here in Houston, Texas.

I really do think that I might want to eventually change them to a blended diet, but I need to do more research of course.

Thank you. It is just so hard to come up with the just "perfect" diet. I think I like the simplicity of the Blended diet...so If anyone has anything they want to add about that it would be great.

Thanks AlL

There is no such thing as a perfect diet. You need to find one of the recognized diets that works for you and your gliders. You can read more about the Blended diet here: gliderkids.com

I am just concerned that they are drinking all the ensure and nothing else. Wondering if I should put all in a blender except for the mealworms and a little bit vegs and fruits on the side.

Has anyone tried that with the Darcy diet?

Also, if one gives mealworms then you do not need to give any other protein correct?

I am just a new mommy who did a bunch of research and I want my babies to be healthy and not get fat!

My gliders were on Darcy's diet for years and I recently switched them to the Blended diet. On Darcy's they ate all the Ensure first and then went for the fruits and veggies. The trick may be finding fruits and veggies that your gliders love. I put out a lot of fruit that remains untouched, but if I give them watermelon, grapes, or fresh apple they always eat all of it.

Now I'm having the opposite problem with the Blended diet. My gliders are eating more of their fruit and veg and pretty much ignoring the actual diet mixture. I may be switching back to Darcy's diet in the near future.

Thank you Elizabeth! I am just concerned that they are eating all the ensure and not touching alot of the fruits and vegetable.

I did cut it up in little tiny bits, so maybe I will try a few bigger pieces.

Gliders like to hold their foods, so different sized chunks work well.

I have fed the Ensure diet for yrs and love it. With my newbies or rescues, that go nuts over the ensure and are slow with the fruits and veggies, I usually put the proteins, veggies, and fruits in first and then put the ensure in afew hours after they have woken up. The ensure is sweet, so just like a skin kid, if they get desert with dinner, they are going to eat the sweet stuff first. grin
Once they know they are going to get the ensure every night, they eat more and more of their meats, veggies, and fruits. Then I can start giving everything at once.

I give mealies as a treat afew mornings a week. I try to stick with boiled or roasted chicken breast, scrambled or boiled eggs, & browned turkey burger as nightly proteins.

A lot of people say that the ensure makes gliders fat, but in 6 yrs of feeding it, I have some big uns, and some tiny petite suggies. All have the same size cages, all have CC wheels, & all get the same out of the cage playtimes. So, if it was the ensure, I would think all my suggies would be big, right?

awwww blush You are very welcome. Good luck and let us know if you have any other questions. Some of my suggie's favorites are frozen raspberries stuffed with yogurt, and fresh sugar snap peas. I have to break mine in half, but as Bourbon likes to tell me, "my suggies are wayyyyy to spoiled." roflmao

BTW: I don't call the diet I use, "Darcy's" because I don't feed it exactly like her's. But it is the basis of what I feed.

How old are your joeys? If they're still pretty small then they probably won't eat all 4 tablespoons of food that you're giving each of them. You can try cutting back a bit on each serving. For example: only give 3/4T of each ingredient rather then a full tablespoon. Then adjust it as they get bigger and start eating more.

Also, you do not need to add any sprinkled calcium or glideraide. The only added calcium should be the 250mg that you add to the bottle of Ensure. Too much vitamins/minerals can be just as bad as too little, so make sure that when you're feeding a diet you feed it how it says and don't add anything to it(treats, of course, can still be fed in moderation). wink

if you're using the darcy diet and adding sprikle calcium on top you're altering the diet... too much calcium is not good either.

My babies are 15 weeks oop. When I went to get some supplies they told me to give them glideraide
and some sprinkle mixture that contains calcium and other vitamins. I told then they were on the Darcy diet.

So if I have them on the Darcy diet then I do not need to give then glideraide? I am going to call them to find out exactly what is in the "vitamin calcium mixture" that I bought from them. I need to know what is in the glideraid as I have so much of it!

Gosh, I really thought I was ready! Two years of research does nothing compared to all of you who are experienced. I have learned so much. Thank you all!

When I used to feed Dacy's diet, I blended the fruits and mixed the ensure into them. I left the veggies whole for texture.

You can give the gliderade as a treat once in a while ( mixed 1 part to 5 parts water ) in a treat cup, along with their regular dinner. But I would not give the extra vitamins sprinkled on anything. That would be vitamin overload. You also need to make sure that the calcium you are adding to the ensure does NOT have any vitamin D in it. The ensure already has vit D and you don't want them to have too much. thumb

I will definetly find out about the powdered calcium I bought from the Exotic shop. I called and the person who answered the phone said he did not think it had vitamin D, but I said that was not good enough I needed to know for sure. So I have to call tomorrow when the owners get there. Thanks for letting me know about the gliderade as they told me to give it to them everyday. They do not drink it, but I was putting it out! I love this site!
