Normally I have a stock pile of the gerber baby chicken food but like an idiot I forgot I was out and so was the supermarket. I got the lamb and turkey instead, the nutritional info is simular but wasnt sure if I could substitute or even if my Gliders would eat it, although they eat everything. someone let me know if this substitute is ok. thanks

I think the turkey by itself if ok for a substitution occasionally... but I don't know about the lamb.

Maybe instead of risking a whole batch of BML they may not touch (mine have done this ), just have a no BML night and make it properly tomorrow? Serve the turkey on the side for tonight? Just a thought...

I made it with the lamb and they liked it, actually they sat in their dish and ate it. I checked a site that had the nutritional info on gerber foods and they are very simular so Im guessing this wont be a problem. The only difference is that the lamb as a little less moisture so I added 2 more tablespoons of apple juice.

There is a rather large difference between the chicken baby food and lamb baby food calcium to phosphorus ratios. The chicken baby food was chosen over fresh because of its higher calcium content.

Chicken baby food, jar, per 100g has 55.0mg calcium to 90.0mg phosphorus. Lamb baby food, jar, per 100g has 7.0mg calcium to 97.0mg phosphorus. So there is a big difference between the two in that regard... I have no idea about other vitamins, etc. but using lamb as a permanent replacement is not a good idea.

I'd suggest making another batch of BML with the chicken baby food and alternating between the two, if you don't want to waste the lamb mixture.

Edit: turkey baby food is better than lamb, but still considerably lower in calcium. Basically, it's not advisable to make any substitutions to the BML mix.
