mandy I feel so bad for you going through this. Hopefully afteer putting Bubbles under your vet will be able to give you a better understanding of what is wrong and if she thinks it can be fixed to give her a decent quality of life. I've very glad she is at the vets and on pain meds for the night. I hate the thought of her having to suffer such awful pain. Bubble continues to be in my prayers. I hope the vet will have some good news for you tomorrow. Please keep us updated. I had to check gc as soon as i got home from thanksgiving dinner just to see how she was doing hug2

I'm so sorry Mandy. I wish there was better news for her. Whatever happens, know that you did what was needed and provided her with the medical care she needed. She knows that you love her.

Have you been in contact with Val yet? If not, please give her a call. Please. And do so before your vet begins any sort of surgery, this concerns me a lot. She may be able to give you some direction on what to talk with your vet about and a good course of action. Please give her a call.

Val would rather be woken up on Thanksgiving to help you with your glider than have your glider suffer for one minute that it doesn't have to suffer. She has MUCH experience with wounded gliders, including self-mutilations and very desperate-sounding injuries.

Please call her. Do not wait.

Again - that is really something that you should ask Val, as she probably has more experience with the difference anesthesias as used on gliders than anyone else.

I couldn't agree more with this. Her phone number is out there for a reason and in this case, I feel very strongly about having the consult with her so that you have a course of action.

Call her.

Mandy, you can also have your vet call one of the consult vets for specific instructions. Dr. Walsh is Val's vet and is one of the consult vets...

vet just called me and I just left message for Val. My vet was very pleased of condition this am color of urine is still good even so it comes out from a diff hole she also gained some weight overnight which is another plus the wound looked good she said and not like she has been messing with it more so the plan is clean out the wound and amputate her already partially ambulated tail some more to make sure the infection in the tail isn't actually causing the other infection to keep coming back they will use sefoflurane as anesthetic because she said its even better than iso she also Askese me about if i want her to do cpr if she had complications during surgery but after I discussed with her we opted out because she said sometimes if the infection has spread further than visible it might be better to just let be and I agreed with that because I want bubbles to have quality of life and not me being selfish I pray I am doing this right! Other than that she spoke to dr lightfoot who is actually a recommended glider vet in Tampa for gliders on Sugar Glider Help dot com website. Anyways keep saying your prayers thanks

BUBBBLESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS made it thru surgery!!!!!!!!!!! She is still wobbly the vet set from meds but seems to be coming out great of anestesia. Tail is ambutated. there was a mass in the tail they wanted to send it in to pathology but that would be another $ 250 so I opted out at this time frown i just couldnt swing anymore right now and the tail was really never my concern as much anyways as the other abcess was. which the vet still doesnt know what caused it. she said that whatever cause it to begin with probably never was treated long enough to completly kill it off so thats why it came back. the only concern now is the uretha (Pee hole will no longer be thru her clocea) it now will be in that newly created hole that was self inflicted. so she said that i really need to watch that it wont grow closed but she said she doesnt suspect it because the tissue is uretha and it should not want to do so... i cant say it how she said it because i cant remember all the fancy english words uggh but this is the best i can repeat it i will pick her up at 2 pm smile i will try to make pics then so everyone see better what i was trying to say where the self created hole was that she OR Benny did! i am concerned now and so is vet that possibly benny was the one nipping on her ! so if thats the case why would he do that ll of the sudden? could he smell her infection? my plan is to keep them in seperated cages until she is completly healed. i will put them close next to each other so they can still "talk to another" but just not into same cage!

Bubbles is home. Tail ambutated there is only about 1 inch left now frown other wound open and i have to flush it out with a solution daily. her pee hole is now on that side! vet says it will have to heal from inside out and close on its own. and hopefully her new pee hole won't close up if it does we have a problem.
I will try to take pics later

so here is the low down of CASE SUMMARY: ANY COMMENTS - SUGGESTIONS appreciated!!!

PHYSICAL EXAMINATION:
Pulse: 280
Respiratory rare= 80/n
weight 0.087 kg 0.19lb 0.02 m2
Integument:
LARGE right INGUINAL wound, healing well with granulation bed, no signs of inflammation and a small amount of what looks to be fibrin and potentially abscess capsule that is pulling away. able to see MUSCLE AND TENDON but no BONE or other organs.

UROGENITAL: Urinates very well through a STOMA in the URETHRA located within the left inguinal wound... bulbous dark muscle colored mass located just lateral to the cloaca. Pouch clean without signs of infection or inflammation
Rectal o masses, normal stool, no bleeding, defecates well through cloaca.

Surgical ambutation of the tail went well. The mass looked to be less like an abscess and more like a cancerous growth that may or may not cause her problems in the future. (I personally had declinde histopathology) ANY ADIVCE on that?

At this time she is trying to get to her surgical site, not the abcess, and so we recommend that she wears an ecollar and that you are very good about giving her the feedings as recommended as she may not eat as well as she would without the ecollar. She is very upset with the ecollar on as most gliders are and you should not be surprised by this. The suture in place are absorbable and will fall out on their own. She recieved SQ fluids during surgery and had a local infusion of lidocaine and bupivicaine at the tail ambutation site. SHE MAY BE PREDISPOSED TO URINARY tract infections or the urethra may close down as the tissue heals BLOCKING HER ABILITIY to urinate. ( :(((( )

We have discusses these possible complications of her DIVERTED URETHA opening.

this was the PROBLEM LIST ORIGINALLY:
RIGHT INGUINAL WOUND
MID TAIL MASS
Urethra opening in Right INGUINAL AREA urinates well through this opening

DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS:
r/o recurrent abscess that never full rescolved
r/o neoplasia (bening vs Malignant vs Granuloma vs Abscess vs other (i have to say about her tail my original vet 2 weeks ago said he pulled out some fluids of the tail and he said it looked like cottage cheese so he wasn't concerend that this was anything serious but now this makes me concerned.... would you invest in HistoPathology testing? what if it was indeed cancer? I know for sure i would NOT put her thru cancer treatment and rather put her down than having her to go thru that. THOUGHTS?

Oh Mandy - this is not easy & I'm so sorry that you're in this position.

I went thru a similiar situation & my glider was at the vet's for a week and they were hand feeding him. I had to make that decision too. Just remember that there is no wrong decision. I felt that if I decided to put my baby to sleep I would wonder "what if? Did I give him enough time? ect." BUT on the other hand if I continued to put him thru treatments and then he didn't make it, I would feel terrible about doing that. We simply don't know.

Listen to what the vet has to say & follow your heart. My thoughts & prayers are with you & Bubbles. hug2 heart hug2

Hopefully someone who knows more about that medical jargin can come along and help out with that vet report.

I'm sorry your going through all this...I'm sure it's very stressfull. I'm glad Bubbles made it through the surgery ok, and I hope she gets better each day.

Her picture is cute...she's has such an annoyed look on her face, and I like how she's holding onto the e-collar.

Praying for a speedy recovery smile

oh my gosh I just read about self-mutulation.... and this is what my vet suspected... so how do i know IF SHE did this to herself or if Benny did it to her!! I saw her bending over several times last week but I always thought she was "licking" herself clean. no noise or screamig like that post described of Mambo. she is in her e-collar and in sep cage from benny but what happens for her future now? also anyone ever had heard of a new pee hole like she now has? I wonder what her prognosis are?
