I am wanting to get a nest box for my babies and I have seen other people using them and they say that they are using a sealant on the wood. My question is what is safe to use? I don't want to give them anything that could be harmful so I wanted to check first before starting that project lol. Thanks in advance!

I believe that it is clear polyeurothene finish. Applying several layers allowing it to dry thoroughly between coats.

You can use clear polyeurothene finish as was stated previously. Although it says it dries fast on the can, please remember wood is very porous so you should allow a full 24 hours in between applying each coat. Use very fine grit sandpaper after each coat dries before applying new coat. Apply a minimum of 3 coats. Allow to air dry 1-2 days before use.

Ok thank you! My hubby and I actually saw your post for the custom nest box on Facebook and that gave us the idea to do it for our babies. He does a lot of wood burning stuff but we weren't sure how to seal it. Thank you so much for the information, love that custom box too, it's adorable!
