Sorry to hear that. I'm liberally bribing Arthur afterward, so I hope to avoid having a long recovery of trust. He is already acting like a beaten stepchild right afterwards frown

can only pray Arthur gets there soon. Since the first dose he has been fighting me so much. For the third dose I added a little extra to account for how much I guessed he end up wearing.

Hutch, take that little dryer lint ball and wrap him up like a burrito with his head sticking out and then medicate him.

Can't have you looking like you got into a fight with a rabid raccoon.

1st.... too late about that rabid raccoon look.

2d... looks like the raccoon won.

3d... tried, he kept wiggling out. I think the fleece gives him too much traction. I'll give it another try tonight... my hands could use a break from the raccoon.

Yeah, I tried the baritto method as well, it worked okay for the first couple to few days. She started resisting as she started to feel a little better I guess. Her meds was flavored, and I offered whatever she would take for comforting, she still hates me.

Although, last night I held her in my hand, which means she sat in my hand as I fed her freeze dried mealiies.

After a few more days of meds... Arthur is still not accepting his fate. He's becoming very talented at hiding his face & has become nippy about it.

He doesn't seem upset with me once it's over. Rather than leaping away to beeline for the cage, he'll hang out for a treat & butt scratches. A few minutes later, he'll go down my arm & cling to my wrist, his sign for "I'm ready to go back now."

Are you able to get your thumb under his chin? Kinda cradle his head with the next 2 fingers?

Hutch seeing as I have treated more gliders than I can remember I am going to explain how I do it.

I get them in a pouch with their head sticking out, I hold them with their back against my stomach. Then using my left hand I put a thumb over the head and a finger under the chin to immobilize the head.

I then wiggle the syringe into the side of the mouth to get the little link ball to open, I place the meds to the side of the mouth to avoid them aspirating the meds.

sounds like what I am trying to accomplish, except I've been using a fleece blanket instead of a pouch. I guess I need more time to refine the technique. Part of my trouble is I'm afraid of hurting him, I have to hold him so tight & he tries so hard to keep his mouth shut.

I really appreciate the detailed description, it helps. I'll keep at it.

Well, Arthur does not like it & he does what he can to get away... but once he's secured tight in my grip, he becomes mostly resigned to his fate. Mostly.

Only a few more days (Friday night will be his last dose). He still seems to be improving & seems to relieve himself easier, but he still hisses loudly throughout his first 'go' in the evening. I'm hoping things keep improving & we won't need to do this longer.

Sending well wishes for treatment to do the trick first round, we don't want either of you going through extended ordeal of meds.

I'm glad to here you have figured out "The grip" it takes to hang on to him... I chalked the issues I had to fear of hurting them.

Dot and Fiona hissed while pottying for quite awhile after their UTI cleared up. They didn't seem in pain. That's been 2years ago, and occasionally they hiss still. Maybe it's just a relief sound. And yes they each have been tested 3 times since and was given a good bill of health. smile Yay!

I may have spoken too soon... or Arthur is just getting grumpier about all of this; hard to say. He gave me a couple good bites this morning & a solid one this evening. I was willing to be a little more patient with him this morning, but after 12 hours of overhauling dental chairs that the technicians are not taking proper care of...

Well, he chomped, then found out exactly how firmly I could hold his head still. Since he only gave me death glare, I know I didn't hurt him; I'm developing a better feel for that. He was not happy about being in a head-lock & tried to give me a nip as I released him... he's never before tried to get a 'revenge nip' ...ever. He missed.

Arthur only got one bite-sized treat instead of the three I've been giving him. He might have been more disgruntled about that than the meds or the hold as he was slow to go back inside the cage. I'm hoping his attitude improves tomorrow, I don't want this to become any more unwelcomed than it already is for either of us.

Maybe I could try getting one of the dental techs to medicate him... at least I won't mind his biting then... *continues evil thoughts*

Only one half-hearted bite attempt & one real attempt... neither of which connected more than a graze. Arthur can be such a turd.

Morgana had leapt form the cage as soon as I opened it & hopped over to the shelves they like to clamber over. No big deal... or it least it wasn't until I was trying to dose Arthur. She kept coming over to see if he was alright & sticking her head right where I was trying to put the syringe & licking his cheek. As if this wasn't complicated enough.

At least Gwynevere only sat on my arm staring at me accusingly. I don't know if it was because Arthur has been getting a lot of one-on-one attention or because I was torturing him. With her, really hard to tell.

Yesterday was Arthur last day on the meds, but he seems to be a little unsure about things now. When I was giving out treats tonight, he actually went to hide under the wheel! Well, not going to allow that, I opened the door & held one out so he could see it, but had to come & get it. Arthur didn't hesitate, but scurried right on over. He solidly grabbed on to my fingers with both paws & ate the yoggie & pine nut I was offering.

He also refused to let go. I tried to wiggle my fingers free, but he only held on harder, eating directly from my fingertips. Once the treats were gone, I again tried to get him to let go by rubbing his toes between the fingers he was holding. He looked right at me... then bit me. Not too hard, but I did feel it.

After a loud "OW!" & blowing on him, he released me. He keeps that attitude up & he'll only be able to watch others get the goodnight treats. Turd.
