I was wondering if anyone has used grass puppy pads under their cage to collect feces and discarded food. Is it safe if pulled up into the cage? I've seen 5 grass types advertised; rye, blue, feseve, zoysa, and Bermuda. Are any of these safe for gliders. It will not be grass from outside, but safely grown.

I would be concerned about what bugs it may attract. Knats and ants (maybe mosquitoes if wet) will eventually find your cage if the drop pans isn't cleaned regularly. Gliders are curious, and if they do pull it up, may make a bigger mess than what the mat was intended to do.

Depending on the media the grass is grown in, it could be a safety issue as well.

Do you have a link to the website you found this on?

It really wasn't one certain ad, I've seen ads for grass pads for years now and was just wondering if it would be better than pine pellets or newspaper. But your views are on point and it might not be such a good idea...

I would also think the grass would require sunlight and have to be taken out in order to receive light. Gliders can't be in the direct sun. It would make them overheat in a fleece pouch.

I pull the drop pans wash and set outside to dry as needed. While they're out, I also check their potty and poop to make sure it looks normal. The only time I line the drop pan is when it's black. Then I line with white paper towels so I can easily see.

If they have a bad smell, try cleaning their wheel, but if you decide to clean their cage in the process, keep in mind that gliders are "scent oriented" and can over mark their territory if cleaned all at once. I usually spread it over 3 days:
Day 1 - wash all fleece except the sleeping pouch they're in. If it stinks, change out that night.
Day 2: wash toys and wipe down cage bars.
Day 3: wipe down wheel, lower grate and wash drop pan.

This gives them the opportunity to lightly mark clean items and not go in to high gear and over mark the cage because they can't find their smell. I hope this makes sense.

I just want to add, I don't use anything in the drop pan. Everything dries up and I just take the pans to the kitchen, vacuum them out and wash them in the sink with a hose attachment. I love my garbage disposal.
