Suz, I finally watched the video and it just makes you want to pick her up and hug her! Seeing just a few moments of this has been enough to make so many of us cry, so I can't imagine how much you're hurting. First the loss of Cricky and now watching Pika hurt! cry
There are so many people on this board who are keeping you both in our thoughts and hearts. mlove
I'll be interested to hear what MaryH has to say and if she agrees another special needs baby would be best, any modifications to introducing them. Knowing how I've had to modify Flo's cage, I still think a young active glider would not do well. I also think it might be a bit overwhelming for Pika, but she was used to Cricky doing his laps around the cage. Let us know what you decide.

Suz whatever you decide to do with this special little girl I know in my heart it will be the right thing to do hug2

You care so deeply for Pika (& all your gliders) I know this must be hard for you as well as her without Cricky there worried

I pray that you both recover from such a loss soon...it's never a full recovery but even a little would do to not see you both so sad upset

aww... poor baby girl. I feel for her! My glider geranimo used to make that noise before we got him a cage mate, it's such a horrible sound and it makes me feel so bad, I hope you can find her another buddy so she can be happy again cry

Oh, that is just too sad! Poor baby, she just doesn't understand. I'm sorry you are both going through all this. Animals can grieve very hard for their mates. I pray her heart will heal soon (both of your hearts!)

I didn't say in PM, but when you have her on you...keep her next to your heart. I know with Riker, he'd get worse in a pouch, but improved in my shirt where he could hear my heartbeat and share warmth...with her being blind that might be even more important to her. Worth a try. worried

I have tried many times over the past couple of weeks to put her over my heart and she has popped back out immediately, only to climb around to my back and snuggle down between my shoulder blades between my shirt & my hoodie (this is where she habitually goes when my hubby holds her). Tonight though, after she ate her breakfast, she climbed onto me and dove down my shirt, cuddled up right over my heart and fell sound asleep heart I felt so guilty when it was time for me to get ready for bed frown So, I tucked her into her pouch with a snuggly blankie, but she popped her head out right away. I rubbed her until she fell back asleep. My hubby was able to get some pix of her sound asleep in her pouch... Here she is... sleep sleep sleep

Okay, my husband and I discussed Pika's situation at length last night and we've decided to get her a joey as a companion. I've contacted Elisabeth (sil) and she has a joey who will be 8 weeks old on 12/16 that we are going to get for Pika. I know I can trust sil's judgement that this joey has the right temperament for what Pika needs. heart In "chatting" with Teresa (dancing) about the cage set-up, we figured out how to modify a Rescue Wheel to be Pika-friendly and still be good for the joey, so she is going to be sending one to me this week. I've also got some ideas on how to re-specialize the cage so that it's both Pika & joey friendly. Now I just have to be patient and wait until I can get the joey from Utah to here once she's old enough. Plus, I need to continue to keep Pika with me as much as possible during the interim. Hmmmm... I have to start thinking of names, too...
So exciting, thinking about getting a joey that I can keep!!! mlove
It's kind of odd to be a breeder and have to go elsewhere to get a joey, but I only have 2 joeys oop right now and they're both promised to other people already. I don't want to wait a couple of months until Bittah's joeys come oop and then are old enough to be weaned because I really feel like Pika needs someone ASAP...
Sorry, I'm rambling...
Thanks again to all of you for your love & support through this whole ordeal.

OK, so about 11 days until Pika can have a friend. I'm glad sil has a good prospect for you. Let us know how they do once they meet. I'm just glad there's hope for Pika to be happy again! mlove

Suz, my heart wrenched to watch that video...nobody here at work understands the tears streaming down my cheeks.

I'm so HAPPY you've chosen to get her a new friend. She needs one SO DESPERATELY.

If there's anything we can do to help, please just say so.

As far as names....is this going to be a boy? If so, I think Gabriel would be the PERFECT name (a little angel for your Pika).

Give Pika extra hugs & kisses from all of us...there are only 10 days now!

For those of you interested in Pika's new (soon-to-be) companion, you can see Elisabeth's ad on Classified Central by going Here. I'm not sure yet which of the joeys pictured is going to be Pika's new companion, but they're both adorable mlove

I brought Pika to work with me today by tucking her into the special pouch in my Pouch Pocket Shirt. She did very well and hasn't cried today at all. She's still sleeping right next to my heart and so I think I'll be wearing this shirt a lot until her new friend gets here grin

hug2 hug2 hug2 hug2 Suz, I am so so sorry that you and Pika are having to feel so much sadness. It's true people sometimes just don't realize that "animals" feel almost as much as humans. I wished I knew what to say or do to help. Everyones suggestions are great! As to your concern on getting a little one because of the cage setup, I wonder if maybe you could set it up to where there were two cages connected (sorta like a tunnel passing thru from one to the other. Oneside for Pika and the other for the other glider to play. Has she ever had joeys? I'm wondering if she had a joey to "nurture" (it's like with us humans, sometimes our pain will lessen when we can help or love another in need). She sounds like a very loving girl, and this could help lessen her grief.
I agree, she dose need a companion. I feel that this emotional upset of saddness will take a toll on her health. Please know that your in my prayers and the angles above are looking after you and your baby girl. heart

I am sorry, I missed the last page here...gee wizzzzzz, what wonderful news! I am so happy that you did find a companion for Pika....(I left my original post) just so you knew that I was praying for you earlier. Good Luck and Blessings to you , Pika and her new companion!
