Ok, definitely!
she is still great, I just gave her meds and cleaned her ecollar... without any fuss! She looks good and is starting to perk up a bit. I love her to pieces. So far this has been an overall positive experience because she was very frightened of me before and is much more trusting now, even coming up to the cage bars and getting in my hand for snacks.I hate to pick favorites but... I think she is my favorite glider...
Xfilefan ( I am sorry I !think! your name is jen? you helped me so much I can't believe I don't know your name!), I may email you some pics tomorrow to post if you don't mind.
I am determined to post more even if I have to buy a new camera!
G'night!~thanks~
(hugs!)
xoxo,
Liz and Alivia =)=)=)

If you need more collars (there comes a point they're just too gunky to clean...) just let me know. My collars are no charge to an active SM. smile Looking forward to update and pics!

Xfilefan may I please send you pics?
I have quite a few so let me know whether to thin them down myself or let you pick smirk

Alivia is great, she is becoming more active so I moved her into a slightly bigger cage... (by like three inches lol)
she is so easy to catch for meds etc that I thought she'd have more fun this way. I wish I could put her wheel in there but the doors are too small and it doesn't come apart.
thumb
Her wound is closed now ( you can't tell that from the pics) but is still red and a little swollen. All in all I am pleased with the progress. smile Her "poo" is a little lighter than usual but I'm assuming it's from the meds. ( It's not runny, but just slightly looser than normal and about 3 or 4 shades of brown lighter... ok maybe I look at her "poo" too much hehe.) tounge
Her tail is getting really matted down from the food, antibiotic cream and is there anything I can do? dunno
I tried wiping it down with a slightly damp cloth but that I think hurt more than helped. I guess that her tail should be the least of my worries, but I just wonder how she will ever get herself clean with all the food from the ecollar, the ointment, and the general unmaintained fur... poor girl she is always so clean and neat ohwell I'll bet she hates being so grimy.

We go back to the vet Friday, I think I will be ok with just this one ecollar ( thanks xfilefan for offering another. You're so nice), And from now on I will keep enough materials on hand for an ecollar for all three gliders! I have "lived and learned".
I'll post pics through Xfilefan soon!
Thanks y'all! thanks

You're welcome to send the pics-I won't be able to get to them until tomorrow, since I'm at work until 7am, but I will then.

And they do get gunky since they can't groom. You can either clean her up with a warm, wet washcloth, then keep her on you and warm until fully dry, or if it's really bad, can submerse in a clean, sanitized sink (no more than 2-3 inches of water that should feel to your wrist like it's not even there). To dry, I start with plain tissues (make sure no lotions, etc.) to wick away most of the water, and finish with a dry washcloth, then again, keep her on you until fully dry.

You may be surprised at how long she needs to be in the collar-it HAS to be until she's fully healed, which could be 2 or 3 weeks. Otherwise, if any discomfort, she'll go after it again and you get to start all over, plus the potential for serious damage very quickly with a cloacal SM. PM me your addy, and I'll have some collars out to you by the weekend. If you don't end up needing them, just keep them on hand. Those of us that have had SMs say "once an SM, always an SM"...which means any infection or injury is likely to result in the same thing in the future.

Liz,
I am so sorry I hadn't registered when *it* happened. I'm glad to hear Alivia's doing better, though! Congratulations on being a wonderful suggie mommy...I'm sure your biting angel will bond to you soon enough. smile

Keep an extra e-collar on hand at all times!! MOE will get out of his every once in a while and when he does, he chews the mole foam/skin completely off.
One the pics it looks like you have a bowl of food in the cage. She can't eat that can she? You need to get the bird feeder to put on the outside of the cage so the collar will go around it so she can eat. (maybe I missed reading that you are doing that, not sure). Anyway, I'm in Alabama too and MOE has been in an e-collar for almost a month. If you need to talk PM me here or IM me on aol "Tams10100@aol.com". I will offer an support I can.

I just took off the ecollar to clean it really quick...
I noticed that Alivia has a long, thin bump under the side of her neck... It may just be matted hair but I think it may be scar tissue forming from the ecollar rubbing ( the skin mass is hard ) it is only in one spot.,.. right now alivia is in her cage busy with yogies... but they will only entertain her for so long. should I put the collar back on? the bump is not bloody and doesn't seem to be too iritated. and she doesn't flinch if I touch it or squeeze it..
She is being so sweet I hate to put that mean old collar back on especially with it hurting her but I know it helps.

Let me know what to do.

well I put the collar back on her... I will wait and see what is posted overnight as far as the knot goes...goodnight.
I hope she's still progressing, tonight she seems a little less perky than usual but she's just now getting back to her normal sleep pattern after her accident. ya'll be praying still, she's still not out of the woods...

Liz, keep the collar on her. She may need to see the vet again, but the collar stays ON. A rubbed neck is much less serious compared with cloacal SM, but may also require antibiotics. If the skin breaks, use neosporin but do not take that collar off. It's likely due to an improperly made/fitting collar-I won't be able to get them to you fast enough so you may need to try again to make another per the instruction in the sticky. Make sure there's no food stuck underneath it, also, as that can increase irritation. If you need to clean the fur, hold her in a dry towel wrapped like a burrito until the fur is completely dry, and clean the collar as best you can.

ty, I will make a collar tomorrow. I think the stuff the vet used to pad it isn't quite soft enough. the collar is on her, I will call the vet tomorrow first thing to see of he wants to do anything different on her antibiotics.

when she had her collar off earlier,I watched alivia finish off her yogies and as soon as they were done she started curling her back (reaching down to bite).fortunately I was right there to stop her but it's obvious that this is going to be a longer process than I was hoping =( I know when I get a cut or something it kind of itches as it heals so I don't blame her for picking at it. poor baby =(.
cry cry cry
I'll get her fixed up tomorrow. she was so cute when I took the collar off, I scratched her chin ( she's never let me come that close for that long without biting) and she raised her head the way a doggie does =) she even closed her eyes in bliss. I can tell she's uncomfortable with it back on but I'm going to try to take it off for a couple minutes of good scratching a couple times a week now that I know she likes it ( and will let me put it back on w/o a fuss!) laugh
I'll post tomorrow, I'm seriously tired.
(hugs)

Liz lots of (((HUGS))).

I'll have 4 collars out to you by Friday (at that point I can overnight them and guarantee when they get there). In the meantime do the best you can, and have the vet use at least 1 strip of molefoam underneath the moleskin at the neck to cushion it. Unlike cats/dogs, gliders react much differently to a collar, and it needs to be padded, both to stay on and prevent damage to the neck. You may also want to ask for a painkiller (I don't remember if you have one) to minimize her discomfort/anxiety. Torb is what I usually use.

she didn't eat last night... i did give her about five yogies so i'm hoping she's just full. my vet wont be in til twelve. alivia's body temp does seem a little lower. she is so sleepy, which worries me, but then again she hasn't rested well in several days. she slept all night too.

this is making me nervous.
