When we first got Lilly she had breathing problems. She would kinda yelp almost occasionally like it is hard to breathe. and there is wheezing and clicking in her breath. We immediately took her to the vet. She said there was nothing wrong charged us $100 and sent us home. Then a few days later I insisted we take her to another vet. He said either respiratory infection or allergies. Gave us antibiotics and sent us home. This problem continues to come back. It goes away for a few weeks and comes back. The vet once again said respiratory infection or allergies. More antibiotics.

Any ideas why this keeps coming back. The suggies are on bml. They eat every night. And the cages are cleaned regularly. They get lots of love and attention. I am so worried after reading all the stories here that she will just stop breathing at any moment.

I definitely suggest going to a different vet and explaining what the last one said and did. There is obviously something up with your fuzzbutt and the problem needs to be addressed immeadiately. Keep us posted.

My husband took lil and got new antibiotics from the vet. hopefully this works

Suggest the vet do a swab of her throat and nasel area and send off for a culture and sensitivity. It is possible that the antibiotic is not effective enough to completly kill whatever she has. Other possibility is she does not remain on it long enough to kill the bacteria.

Or if it IS an allergy of some sort, antibiotics won't help. Antihistamine of some kind, maybe, if there is one for an animal as small as a glider. Do you notice any correlation between the wheezing and say laundry or cleaning your house? There are scents, dyes, irritants involved with all kinds of things. Maybe try the dye free, scent free detergent/softeners and make sure they're thoroughly rinsed so there's no residue. If it is an infection and she's on antibiotics long enough, it should clear up. Like Judie said, a c&s is a good idea to find out EXACTLY what you may be dealing with so meds can be targeted for the specific organism. If an allergy, try and find out what might be irritating her that is recurring (could be construction, windborne, molds, dust (and the mites that live in dust), etc. Try eliminating any cleaning/laundry agents that could irritate and go from there. Dusting with a duster makes the particles airborne. I've switched to using the ones you wear like a glove, or vacuuming the furniture when I can. Wish I could help more. I don't think it's an allergy because we have tried ruling things out and could not come up with a cause. it seems random at best. When we clean the cages (weekly) we cleanthe entire room. when we do this we always put the suggies in another room. we gave her some antibiotics last night. and will continue through the week.

her and rufus played a lot last night but she was still miserable.

then after out of cage time they went straight to the pouch... for some personal time.

if the new meds don't kick her wheezing and clicking i'll ask the vet to do the throat swab.

I hope you find out what is wrong with her! Hopefully the vet will be able to treat her properly and she can live a long, healthy life!

Please advise as to what you use to clean your gliders' cage/toys with. Also, if you use sleeping pouches, how do you launder/dry them? So as not to forget, never use anti-static dryer sheets on glider items as the chemicals could cause problems for your gliders.

When it comes to laundering my gliders' sleeping pouches.blankies, I soak them in very hot water, wring them out & let them air dry. This way I have no worries about any toxins/allergens in the laundered items that might affect my gliders.

I clean the cages with clorox wipes followed by a water. Then for the super cleaning i fill the tub with hot water, soak all the toys and wash them thoroughly...and scrub the cage with a non scratch scrubby and hot water.

i roate how i wash the pouches, blankies and pillows. handwash and laundry. i use sun detergent and no drier sheets.

I hope she lives a long happy life as well! She is such a sweety pie. And after her last home she deserves only the best.
