Can/Will gliders eat lobster roaches? Im switching my feeder colony to lobster roaches since they are so easy to care for and breed, and there better for my reptiles:)

I'm sure the gliders would relish the lobster roaches, Nomad! They are premium gut-loader subjects, too!

The only thing i would be careful is that roaches have very sharp dermal structures on their legs. This isnt a problem for reptiles which swallow them whole, but for gliders, they could get hurt. If you do it, could you please keep good records and inform us??

My gliders love roaches. *PUKE* Their guts smell bad. I lived in a house with a huge roach problem and I had to take roaches AWAY from my gliders when they would find them before me. UGGGGGHGHHHHH. shudder.

I'm so glad I moved. I stopped even trying to poison the roaches because my gliders kept finding them first. They were those big tree roaches, like two inches long. I'm not kidding, TWO INCHES. BLLLLLUUUHHH.

But good luck with it, though

Lobsters are only a little over an inch, more cricket like than other roaches, more manageble:) they dont smell and have live birth, so they are easier to breed, Im sick of incubating cricket eggs...

One thing that you might try is meal worms. Not the supers, but ther regulars. They are incredibly easy to breed. I have them breeding a few gladware containers, with almost no effort. And all they need is rolled oats.

eh im not to crazy about mealies, i like to have things that I can use on all my pets(keeps it simple), mealies are worthless to my lizards, and my gliders like crickets, so I use them, but lobsters are way better than mealies and crickets nutritionaly. They have 1/4 the chitin of crickets and way less than mealies and that makes me happy

Interesting. I do not know much about different nutritional components of insects, or any arthropods for that matter. Do you have a link comparing them?? Or anything like that, I am absolutley fascinated (I can hear my girlfriend *Athena* screaming NERD in my head right now).

I've got a friend who breeds lobster roaches (he has a chameleon) or at least he's trying... I would love to hear if the gliders respond well to them; I might have to steal some from him, lol!

One thing I have noticed, is that you really dont need to feed your cresteds a lot of insects. All you do is add a protein source to the baby food and you are golden.

but i hear they pounce on the insects, and they are mostly for my beardie and gliders, so I figure I'll let my cresteds pounce once in a while, sounds cute:)

update- gliders love lobster roaches! at least mine do, they go nuts for em, so does my bearded dragon, he eats them outside of his tank- hes never eaten anything outside his tank before. anyways gliders love em:) I like em cause they dont smell and get messy like crickets:) If you can handle roaches I recomend picking some up(got mine on ebay) they are easier to handle than crickets(i just freeze a few every night and hand feed them or put them in a food dish) and less fattening than meal worms. They rock!
