Yeah, Kayla, but I would sure love to be a glider in your house...are you kiddin me?! All those cool toys! Trust me, whenever I try to make things for my gliders they just shake their head and kindly ask me to put down the beads and fleece!

I absolutly love your cage! I am trying to come up with something that I can put in my living room or entryway, that won't look so much like a cage, but will give my babies some more room. Yours looks great. I think the mesh on top for ventilation is an awesome idea. I am wondering if hanging a pet net in the top might work for them to have something to glide to and hang on to. Just a thought.

I must say it is an attractive cage but i have found a hole in your story.. Ok your a neat freak nothing wrong with that.. How do you let them out to play with you if your afraid of a little glider perfume?? aka pee pee. Like i said its a very attractive cage but i couldnt see denying my gliders the right to hang from the walls and seeing how many hands it takes to hold on. I agree with randy on the hibrid thing but i only wish there was a plexi glass type mesh. Allows for climbing and ventalition but still allows for the great vision. If anyone knows anywhere that my thought is a reality please let me know as im going to have to rebuild my cage in a couple months.

I have extra shirts for the pee on me.. lol. I dont mind that. I mind that my gliders are climbing on their pee, and chewing on their cage that they peed on. I like things very sanitary for them. With any captive animal, i think our biggest downfall is keeping their environments clean enough. A lot of diseases and infections could be provented if we could just devise ways to keep things cleaner. After all, i dont think they would come in contact with so much of their waste in the wild on such a regular basis.

You could always use plexiglass and drill lots of holes in it. Wont obstruct your view, and they can navigate the holes as well. We have added more holes for the bottom half of the cage, they now scale the walls.

By posting this pic, i didnt mean to sound like i'm trying to convince everyone this is the perfect cage. Its just a cage that works for us, and i think its beautiful, thus i wanted to show it off. I think a "hybrid" mesh/plexi cage would be a much better choice for ventalation and view. But as i said, i only have my glider room to let my kids out to play in, and a mesh/wire cage gives my males access to fight with eachother threw the mesh/wire. This helps me with that problem. They cant fight threw the holes in the plexi.

very pretty cage. how much did it cost for the wood? i'd love to build one...i think i'd stick to the wire but the woodwork on that looks great. i really like your idea about the plexi, but i think it comes down to the fact that both wire and plexi have their own downfalls, and you have to choose which is more important to you. if it works for you, great! it may be a little harder for them to get around the cage but as you said before, they're cleaner.

i think glider cages should be HUGE! when i finally settle down and have a good chunk of land to work with, i'm going to have a huge glider building, 2 floors, with big 8x8x8 cages, like a big barn but with heating and plumbing. i'll just camp out in a corner, haha. until then, they're as big as i can manage...i won't use cages under 4 1/2 feet tall anymore, even for singles. <3

Kitsune... Yes, oh to have a bigger house! I really dont know the cost of "just" the wood. But its not that much. The cages cost roughly $250 each to build, subtract 4 sheets of plexi at $31 each, that would leave you with the cost of wood, plastic hardware cloth for the tops and drop threw grates, PVC for the frame of the grates, hardware, stain, and polyurethane. Thats coming up to $126 for me, that doesnt seem right. Might be a miscalculation in how much we spent in the first place. lol. I really tried not to think about it...

We are building a ferret cage with the same pretty wood frame and double doors on the front, but with plastic hardware cloth and its looking like it will cost us around $100 when finished. Its 4' tall x 2' x 2.5', and has 3 levels built in. It should be done tonight, i can post a pic of it for you if you would like. Just to give you an idea of what the pretty wood looks like with the hardware cloth. I'm a sucker for that dark mohagany stain, it just makes your $100 cage look like a million bucks i think.

Binkys Mom,
yep there is my pickies. He camps out in the glider room most the night. He wouldnt hurt a fly, but my silly critters love to run down to the bottom of the cage and taunt him.
