A little of Mishka's pouch is sticking out today, it wasn't before. I'm going to hate myself forever if Chiana died from some bacterial infection that could have been treated if it were caught sooner. I got a vet appointment for Thursday, the office is really busy and it's the soonest spot they had with the cool glider vet there. The one we saw with the baby gave me printouts on glider diets and suggested I keep her in a sock.

Renee, I'm so sorry that the joey didn't make it. I had the best of hopes Please don't blame yourself, you did the best you could A little of Mishka's pouch is sticking out today, it wasn't before. In regards to Mishka's pouch, it is not unusual for the pouch to become slightly inverted when a joey passes away. The milk ducts become engorged and the mother becomes a bit obsessive about grooming them for a few days. In the process, the pouch tissue becomes inverted. So, I doubt that she has an infection. However, if the inverted tissue becomes a bright red or has any type of discharge on it (smelly or not), then bringing her to the vet right away for a check up would be a good idea. Otherwise, waiting until Thursday will be fine. As for the poor advice from the other vet, it sounds like the vet has "old-school information" still and has not bothered to find more updated sources of information. You may want to recommend Peggy Brewer's book to the vet's office since it has the most up-to-date published information available. Sugar Gliders: Living With and Caring for Sugar Gliders

Thank you again for all your help. I'm keeping an eye on Mishka's pouch, it's still just a little piece of light pink and there's no discharge at all, so I've got my fingers crossed we'll get to Thursday. The good vet there is awesome, I was really impressed by the way she handled Mishka and knew what to look for the first time I took Mish in to her.
