Most probably just listed theirs as a mosaic- that's what I did with my August.

Yes, thank you for working to get this cleared up. I really didn't expect any changes to be made when I first posted my question, but I am glad that you & Priscilla are responding to the requests that have been made. I didn't think there would be so much interest from people. I hope that the other breeders can be happy with this. I know you all have good intentions & don't want people to be confused or feel mislead.

I also think there should be a separate section for platinums in the forum. They're their own color.

Thanks,
Misty

Everything that comes up in The Pet Glider Database as platinum has been corrected to say "colored" or Silverbell Platinum or Haley Platinum!

I agree, especially since alot of people are now getting platinum hets from FFR. They don't fit in any category since they aren't grays, but also aren't from leu lines like the Haley-line hets.

Ok
Sil many gliders that are mosaic don't start out as platinum, but become that when they powder out. The breeder can then go back and change it. Not all mosaics powder out.

BTW....Priscilla and I have said that when you get a platinum by mixing both lines they shoudl be called Silverbell Haley Platinums.

I just caught up with this thread - lots of good debate. Excellent responses from the breeders. Shows that they are willing to work with the community to better it for the gliders and their owners! Thanks!

Since I have Nicky, the "true platinum" that was the result of FFR and To&Fro platinum lines, my description should now be Silverbell Haley Platinum as his color? Wow - that's a mouthful! How about H-Platinum, S-Platinum, SH- or HS-Platinum. (A descriptor can be put at the bottom as a footnote as to what S-, H-, and HS- stands for.) That's a lot less typing! crazy

I'm really glad the decision was to not change the term platinum since it is a genetic term used in other species.

Ok... I am going to throw a wrench into this thread now... what about the Platinum that Sheila purchased from Jason? I think that baby was from a Mosaic purchased from Sheila and WFB/Leucistic Het named Phinn? or was it an offspring out of Sukie and Phinn?

Sheila, is that offspring another Hailey Platinum or what? OR is it another new Platinum Line? Please?

.

Why not just call them all "platinum" and if someone wants to know what line they're from they can just do what normal people do and look at the lineages to find out. tounge

That'd be like having a leu het and having to list the name of their lines in their color description. Such as "Sammie Leucistic" or "Mickey Ethan Leucistic". That just seems silly to me. :\ Lineages are there for a reason and breeders shouldn't have to have long, ridiculous color descriptions just because people are too lazy to look at the lineages, imo.

Yeah, I agree with Nicole on this one. Really seems silly to me too.
