I cant imagine what you are going through but you must remember you are doing the right thing even if out of the two of you, only you know you are.

I held Roo until he woke up at 1:30 this morning. He seems to have forgiven me. Since I hide his head in a pouch when I sub-q, I'm hoping he doesn't really connect mommy to the pain of sub-q. That's what I'm gonna tell myself anyway. I'm going to concentrate on giving him liquids orally and watery foods, to see if that helps the dehydration. I've been more concentrating on getting nutrition and calories into him. His cloaca looks perfectly normal. Tiny and pink, no swelling whatsoever. His incision from the pom removal looks pink instead of red, so I think he's prob close to being totally healed! Wish me luck on pushing fluids!

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement, hugs and sympathy. I was at a pretty low point last night.

so when do his stitches come out? i remember you saying you took him to the vet but they wanted to leave the stitches in a bit longer.. any word? or maybe i missed that update? is he still wearing his ecollar? and hows the sraight jacket coming along? lol anyway, dont be so hard on yourself, if only he knew you were writing his autobiography for him and the world to see hehe

I'm hoping and praying his stitches come out Monday. I'll still prob leave him in the ecollar for another day or two, depending on how he acts. I'm still working on the neuter jacket. It's so close to being what it needs to be but it's hard working on it with Roo occupying one hand. I hope he doesn't mind his autobiography! LOL! I hope my writing about this helps someone else down the road.

Connie, I'm so sorry you are having to go through this and poor Roo (I hate needles). But he is almost through this ordeal and once he is, you can spend so much time just loving on him without pushing meds or poking him with needles, he'll forgive you and you two will have such a great bond.

Just remember why you are doing this. And more importantly, NOT why you are. You are doing this to help him get better. You are NOT doing this to torture him. I know my son didn't understand why I took him to the doc for shots before school started. They hurt him and he said I was a meanie. But he got over it and now, he understands.

Roo might not ever understand but he will get over it and he will remember the love and tenderness he is being shown more than the pain.

Teresa, I know how much you hate needles. I think I can safely say, Roo feels the same way now!

I know why I'm doing this and that I have no other choice. I'm glad he and I had such a strong bond to begin with. I know he'll forgive me and we'll continue to be close. Trust me, he's gonna get so much extra love and attention, SANS ECOLLAR when this is over, he's going to be bathed in it!

Thanks again, to everyone for their support, love, prayers and encouragement. You just don't know, how much you all mean to me. I could have made it thru this alone, but I'm so glad I didn't have too!!!

You know, it truly amazes me, the capacity animals have to love and trust, even tho they've been "tortured" by us.

Roo has been hurt by being sub-q'd repeatedly. He's had nasty medicine and unwanted food/liquid put into his mouth, until he swallows. He has endured wearing an uncomfortable, awkward ecollar for well over a week. He has been forced to be separated from his beloved Abeje and cries for her every night.

He doesn't understand any of these horrible, seemingly unforgivable, things I've done to him.

Yet when I put my hand in front of him, he joyfully scrambles to climb onto it. He snuggles against my chest when I hold him to me and sighs in contentment, just to be close enough to hear my heartbeat. When I lift him to my face, he rubs his head on my chin, to proclaim for all to smell, I am his. He clicks his love for me in his sleep. He looks into my sad, tear-filled eyes, with a quiet acceptance and undying trust. Even tho he doesn't understand, he senses and accepts my unspoken apology.

I feel so small, so insignificant, so unworthy, of this precious gift he gives me. I treasure it more than any material gift I could ever hope to have.

How could I not love such a special, tiny being? I am so blessed.

Ok, Connie, you made me cry. (not that easy to do) You have learned the true joy of being owned by gliders. Unconditional love.

Roo is lucky to have you make sure the best is done for him.

I feel bad when I have to sub-q my girls, but your journey with Roo and your love for him makes me feel better knowing I am only doing it for them.

I just realized I hadn't updated Roo's progress today.

1. No more dehydration! He LOVES G2! For now, he gets all he wants.

2. He has gained SIX grams in 11 days! My little "piggy" now weighs a whopping 82 grams! He's never been over 79 grams and that was right after a meal and before he pottied!

3. He goes to the vet in 10 hours to get stitches OUT!

4. His cloaca is tiny and pink! His pom removal incision looks totally healed to me!

5. He is a smelly little guy! There is only so much, ah, 'stinky' (to high heaven!) you can remove with a baby wipe!

6. He's been marking my face until I'm sure I smell just like him. And I love it!

Wish him good luck at the vet tomorrow! Lets hope he gets his life back with, no ecollar, a proper diet and his beloved Abeje to snuggle with, fur to fur!

i think you guys are at the vet right now but best of wishes all the same!!

Well, good news/bad news. Two stitches came out, but caused bleeding where they had been. She decided to wait to remove the third stitch in a week. They're closed next Mon, so she set the appointment for Tues. I'm going to take him in Fri to re-check, just in case. Good news is, the incision site looks great!!! Sooooo, we're still hanging in there! He's snuggled up in my hand now, sound asleep.

did it bleed from where the incision was or from the little stitch hole? if it bled from the stitching hole, its probably cause the end of where the stitch was cut was jagged.. was the stitching untied or cut? the stitching [string] probably was bent/curved/crooked from setting [like creases] and maybe snagged some tissue on the way out.. that is if it was bleeding from the stitching. just going from personal experience pulling my own stitches out. your vet knows best though i'm sure i'm just the type who questions everything and considers all possibilities before making rulings/decisions. i always have questions! plus i kinda wish i was there to watch for myself!!

I'm the same way! And while it's hard to watch things being done to my baby boy, part of me finds it fascinating. In fact, I've decided if I can handle watching my own babies go thru procedures, other pets should be easier. I'm seriously thinking about becoming a vet tech.
