My boyfriend and I were so excited to finally see the babies out and hustling about the pouch! We sat with them and talked for a couple of minutes. Then sucre(the female) began to make a crabbing noise so we left. She typically does that to us being that we got her and then she got preggo so we figured she is just being protective.

The night goes on and she is still making horrible noises. Some we have never heard before. So we went back to check on her and she was nipping at the babies!! I was horrified. It actually wasnt her that was making the noises, but the babies! Kyce (the male) was nipping at the momma. It was a big triangle and we could not figure out what was going on.

So we took the pouch out of the cage and opened it up. Kyce had already left the pouch and was climbing about in the cage...turns out that they had knawed at their pouch exposing a thick string..and sucre had her foot twisted around it! She was caught and so was a baby. I was so overwhelmed! We cut the string carefully not not hurt either one. She managed to get loose and climb on the outside of the cage with the other joey still in her pouch. She left the other one behind. I was so freaked I didnt know what to do. We set the pouch back in the cage and put an old shirt in too.

This morning all four were in the shirt cuddled and cozy.

I can't believe I am so attatched to the little joeys already! I was watching Sucre climb about the cage and I kept telling her to get down incase they fall. But I guess she knows best. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Wow! Youa re very lucky nothing worse had happened! ~hugs~ kudos for moving so quickly!!

I think I would have been crabby too if my foot was stuck. Glad to hear it all worked out for you!

[:"green"]Loose strings in pouches are a HUGE hazard to gliders. They can very easily get caught the way that your Sucre did. Thankfully, you noticed the odd noises & rescued them from a very hazardous situation. Keep a close eye on Sucre's foot and on the joey to make sure that there is no swelling developing from cut-off circulation. Also, I would completely remove the "offending" pouch from their cage. Since they were able to loosen a string once already, I would not feel safe with that pouch in there as a potential future risk to them again...
