Its neither good nor bad. Its a trait that some gliders can do. Some gliders can carry things with their tails! Like lets say a milk ring or big plastic braclets. I have 5 tail carriers out of 9 gliders.

ALL gliders can tail carry. Their tails are semi-prehensile in that they can hold/carry things with it, but it does not support their weight (unlike the opossum prehensile tail). But you have to have something in their environment that they want to carry. Mine happen to like rings, some like feathers, leaves or flowers (or cookie cutters, strips of fleece, etc.).

It is really cute to watch them try to work something into their tail. grin Their tails curl and get very stiff (if you feel it, it feels like you might break it because they hold it so stiffly). They will often carry things back to their pouch/nest box to help line their pouch. Even if you do not see them exhibit this behavior, they are capable of it and one way to know that they are actively using this behavior is when you find things in their pouch with them.

for example my little guy is a tail carrier!

Here he is putting on his halloween treat bucket

He acts like a little pro he was 12weeks oop when he showed me his strong tail muscles

The funniest thing is he refuses to use anything else to carry with his tail roflmao He will only do it with his halloween bucket

But I am not saying all glider's will only carry there halloween treat bucket with them. I have seen many pictures of other glider's carrying milk rings, bracelets, straws, and even strips of fleece

It all depends on the glider if you get to see them do this or not. I have only seen my female do this one time but that was short lived ever since I caught her doing it she refuses to do it while I'm around.

this is my female when I got to see her tail carrier skills smile

Thank you smile

One of these days I will have to get a video of him putting on his bucket it is to funny how he just lugs that thing on like a hula hoop.
I have even caught him trying to squeeze inside the bucket to sleep in it. now that does not work all to well for him... he has had his whole front half inside and his bottom hanging out now that is funny when he is barking for me to come and see his flusteration. roflmao roflmao roflmao

AH I was over analyzing it. Tail Carrying = carrying things with their tails makes sense hehe. Those are wonderful pictures. Your gliders must be such a treat to watch!

hmmm, a new project...find a bucket! smile Is the one he has about 1.5 inches in diameter? It's hard to tell in the pic?

I actually was at the grocery store this morning after seeing this pic and saw a package of 6 pumpkin baskets. I will go back to measure them! grin
